Help Echo on outgoing calls

I get an irritating echo on my Desire when making outgoing phone calls. I use Orange. Its intermittent, sometimes the echo is there, sometimes not, but it is loud enough to be off-putting. Anyone offer any solutions please?

I get this too and I'm on Orange ... haven't explored a cure as it doesn't happen all the time...

My voice also echoes on my HTC Desire (on Telstra). It varies from being just noticable, to 'can't miss it, to..(once only so far) very very loud. Whats going on? Different service providers - same problem. Is it the mobile network, the phone or .......?
