Help EeePad Backup ?

gwc17

Newbie
Being only 3 weeks with this EeePad, I'm not getting very far trying to do a MyCloud Backup...rather confusing to understand in my aging years 74.

Plugging in the EeePad USB to PC show up as an external drive...Could a Copy & Past all the files to PC...would this act as a backup to be able to copy back to Tablet at later stage if I have a Tablet OS problem.

Apologize if these questions appear silly. Graham.

To do a complete backup I'd recommend using "Astro File Manager". This will allow you to export all of your files, apps, etc...

Copy/paste the files you can find from the Transformer to the PC will NOT find all of the critical files. You could get your pictures, music, movies, etc... but Apps would not be backed up.

Thank you for your kind comments. I have been involved with PC's a a hobby and built my last two desktops.
I think this has helped to keep my brain stimulated every day...I have a contact he's 86 and does the same.
No good retiring and sitting in a chair all day as there is so much interesting things to do....May have to buy a second EeePad though as my wife keep taking mine...Ha!!!

Still not obtained an answer how to back up my EeePad ? to PC or USB stick.

I am also interested in this. If you notice in your asus cloud, there is a backup section. The question is how do you back stuff up in to there.

You could install mybackup pro from the market, it will allow you to backup your data, apps and settings from your asus. you can backup to the sdcard or to the 'cloud' (which is just the mybackup servers, not related to asus cloud).

Hi Graham. Unfortunately these devices are not very backup friendly until you "root" your device. Rooting is basically like gaining Administrator Access.

Once rooted you can use Titanium Backup (app in the market) to back up EVERYTHING in terms of apps, settings, etc.

In addition to Titanium Backup, you can install Clockwork Recovery which can be used to backup your entire operating system...not just the apps and settings. I think this is really what you are looking for...but you must be rooted and that will void your warranty and you could permanently damage your device if not careful.

Backing up is just something that Android doesn't do well with a stock device.

Hope that helps.

UBRocked. Thank you for your input which is most helpful and now I also understand what ROOT is.
Hopefully in the near future there will be an OS update to enable easy an image backup.

Perhaps you can answer another question for me.
Is it possible to download from Market Android Apps to Windows PC-USB Stick for installing to EeePad at a later date ? This would also give one a Backup of Apps.

Graham.

yes, install an app called ASTRO file manager.

once installed, open the app and press menu, tools, application manager/backup and select the apps you would like to create .apk files from.

then browse to /sdcard/backups/apps, your apps will be in this folder, you can then copy them to a usb stick if you have the dock, sdcard, or email them to yourself etc.

or as i said above, try MyBackup Pro from the market.

CarsnGadgets is right on. MyBackup Pro is probably the best choice for doing what you want to do but it's been a couple of years since I've tried it so I'm not sure what MyBackup Pro will and won't backup.

Question for CarsnGadgets...Will MyBackup Pro back up your settings for your email accounts, application/save game data, etc? And what are the things it won't backup?

Wish I was more help but I root every device I own as quickly as possible...so Titanium Backup and Clockwork Mod Recovery are the only things I have used in a long time.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro&feature=search_result

"Backup (with schedule option) to our online secure servers, or SD card, your Applications, Photos, Contacts, Call log, Browser Bookmarks, SMS (text messages), MMS, Calendar, System Settings, Home Screens (including shortcut positions), Alarms, Dictionary, Music Playlists, and more...
Restore your backups on your existing or new phone."

I dont think it includes save games etc though.
