My nexus 5 is currently rooted and unlocked, but im not sure how to get my Efs Data? (doesnt have anything flashed on it)

You can backup your efs data in a recovery such as twrp

It's a good idea to store it somewhere for safekeeping

I see, so i can back it up by TWRP? and how exactly do i get that on my phone? would there be anything else i should backup?

Sorry! I feel asleep before seeing your reply.

I walk through how to manually flash a recovery in this thread here:
http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=6240053

If you haven't before, you'll need to start with the section on downloading and setting up fastboot. Then you can skip the unlock step and go to flashing a recovery.

The fastboot command to install recovery from your devices boot loader is "fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img"

Once installed, you can choose the option to backup EFS in the "backup" menu.

Its a good idea to backup that as well as the phones current state. I'd check data, system, boot, and EFS. Keep one copy on the phone and keep another somewhere safe like a computer. This backup will fix your phone in nearly any situation.

if only if the OP used something like cf-autoroot he will have the stock recovery. this is just to elaborate on Rxpert's post.
1. you can stay on stock recovery now till the 4.4.3 update gets released, cause it will be required for update. it should be out in immediate future or in couple of months. ;)
2. you can stay on stock but get your (nandroid with efs, only efs, only nandroid) three backups with the "one time use custom recovery trick" stated by Brian76 in another post. http://androidforums.com/nexus-5-al...ing-everything-else-original.html#post6524814. after update you can permanently flash twrp recovery.
3. update the recovery now with Rxpert's link, do your backups. transfer nandroid+efs one to your PC. do not leave it on the phone. when the update lands, just flash the stock recovery, update, flash back twrp.
** if you are flashing now use the latest twrp v2.7.0.0. as a safety precaution, after flashing right away reboot to android. then boot back to recovery and do back ups.

For the record, NEVER restore EFS from another device. That is the easiest way to mess up and/or potentially brick your device. The device should only use it's own EFS partition.

And like everyone before me has stated, make the backup and store it on a PC.

I'm upgrading to the N5 real soon now. In addition to the digital backup of the EFS, is it possible/practical to also back up EFS data to hard copy as a last resort backup?

On my old phone I also kept the IMEI, MIN, physical numbers/passwords, etc. But that was on a 2.4.x android machine.

Not that I know of. Your "digital" version of EFS is by all means your hard copy. Granted, it really doesn't have any use to anyone unless they run into radio issues.
