Electronic Music!

Not familiar enough with the genre to break it down into subclasses very much, but I do like it. Mostly, I like what I like, and a lot of what I like has at least some electronic element to it.

I like bands like White Lies, Editors, The Postal Service, Dntel, Neon Neon, Passion Pit, MGMT, LCD Soundsystem and also 80s synth pop such as Soft Cell, Depeche Mode and Bronski Beat. Can I join in or is that not the kind of thing you meant? That's what I think of as electro :)

But of course you can join in :D I agree on Editors, The Postal Service, Passion Pit, MGMT and LCD soundsystem :)

Yay, thanks :D Most of my friends are not into the same music as me so good to 'meet' like-minded people.

The other night I discovered Fishcerspooner (thanks to a random TV show someone else was watching and the Shazam app on my Legend :D ) and then due to Spotifying them was pointed in the direction of Junior Boys, quite chilled but still very much electro. Anyone else found a new band lately? :)

Who here is a Electronic music junkie!

Guilty...

In fact was listening to this when I read the title:

Have been hooked on this that last few days:

I've been a fan of electronica since it began... even before there was a name for it I think. I remember listening to 808 State and hearing the style in the dance clubs. 1989 or 90

Now it's more progressive house and vocal trance I'm attracted to. I listen to http://www.musicone.fm/ and http://www.radiodanz.com in the car. At home I'll listen to BPM or Area on Sirius.

Yeah, same here, I know what you mean :) Those two are pretty good. I've been listening to Bonobo, Apparat, Daft Punk, Ratatat and Yppah a bit lately. All great artists :)

So who listens to Daft Punk? haha

Guilty :) I actually thought the Tron soundtrack was pretty well done.

I love mainstream dance, pop remixes, 90's eurodance and 90's techno. My bro will get annoyed if we're out at a bar and I play La Bouche's Be My Lover on the jukebox..haha.

I get the Promo Only Dance Radio and Mainstream Club issues...love them. Same stuff you hear on BPM on SiriusXM

Here's a mix I did on a radio show a few month back...starts kind of downtempo/dubby into tribal progressive house/trance... check it out if you're interested... tracklist available for anyone who wants it -

Electronic Air KGNU 11.20.10 by Brandon_Paradigm on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

Tried to embed the player, guess this forum doesn't support. You can visit the link to stream or download the mix.

Listening now...like the mellow beginning. Sounds movie soundtrackish. I can picture Marcus & Burnett (Bad Boys) looking for clues with the intro in the background

That DJ though...he reminded me of the SNL skit with the 2 female hosts that talk softly and monotone.

haha, I know what you mean...he is pretty well known in the scene around here, great guy. His voice is soo soft though.

good stuff...don't usually listen to this stuff too often but I liked it. Definitely got better at the 25 minute area.

If you like the 4x4 dance beat more, listen to the other mix on my page, a set I played at an outdoor festival this summer. My set was 11pm - 1am.

Cool..i'll give it a listen to tomorrow...up and down from my desk until quitting time.

I'm sorry, is that aimed at me? Not sure whether it's down to age or Englishness but I'm not even sure if that's good or bad  Could you possibly elaborate? Thanks :)

"Booooo," as in, what an audience does when they don't like something. And its directed at Electronic Music in general... sorry, just not my thing.

I very much like early Human League albums, Reproduction(1979) and Travelogue(1980). Produced before they become overly commercial and famous.

Japan is another electronic favourite of mine.

I first came to China, was living in a rather grotty apartment in Zhuhai, Guangdong. I felt just like that guy on the 'Tin Drum' album cover....

"Cantonese boy, bang your tin drum....."

EDIT:-

BTW many Chinese families still do have a picture of Chairman Mao on their walls.

If anyone wants to hear what I think is the origins of modern electronic dance and techno music, take a listen to Giorgio Moroder, In particular a track called 'Utopia - Me Giorgio'(1977). Giorgio's electronic productions can also be heard on many Donna Summer songs like 'I Feel Love'(1977). His 1972 album 'Son Of My Father' contains some really great Moog work.

Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk are awesome as well.
