Root ElementalX Rom

Is anybody else having a horrible battery life issue? I get to work at 7 in the morning with a full charge and put my phone in my pocket. by 11 o'clock when I take a break my phone is at about 10% without having touched it.

I feel like my battery life is better than the previous version. Haven't run any tests to confirm this though.

Battery life is better for me on this than any of the other JBs, although it's still not great. I rarely go that long without using it, but it just dropped about 4% in 2 1/2 hours of no use (with Maps running in the background apparently... :-P). I have been using Yoinx's kernel the last two days, improves battery a little.

Unless he did some kernel or app tweaks, it should be identical to aokp. I get decent life on aokp, but not as good as I did on aosp. Running apps are the culprit... Monitor what you have running and use an app like llama or juice defender to mitigate the drain.

why do you say it should be identical to aokp? It's not based on aokp.

He gives a shout to them and there's nothing original in that rom, so I made the assumption he used it as a base.

He also gives a shout to CM, but says it's not based on that, although it has the same video/camera bugs... Oh well, it's running great so doesn't really matter to me!

The only update in his source for our kernel is a commit from RMCC from back in April.

I don't know what the fixes to bluetooth are, but maybe they're software side (if you see any improvement in bt)?

Figured I'd chime in before the chorus of "Will this fix bluetooth then?!?!?"

:p

Boots to black screen, flashing CM- tweaked kernel booted, probably undoes most of what was updated, since it was updates to the kernel...

Nah. It doesn't undo anything that was included in the kernel for this.

Actually, looking at it more... I'm not sure why this one would be booting to black... *shrug*

Now I have to try it... thanks :-P

So I've read that Build 2 flashes to black screen but I tried it anyway and had the same result. Is there any fix to that? I saw someone said they flashed the CM-tweaked kernel and it fixed it. How would I do that? What is the order of flashing (rom--gapps--kernel)? Is flashing a kernel the same as flashing a rom?

Sorry for all the questions... I'm traveling away from home and the original Elemental X is giving my phone FITS! Battery is awful, and getting more random reboots. Need something more stable with better battery life STAT! :)

Yes, I fixed it by flashing the CM-tweaked kernel. Just download and flash after the ROM. Don't think it matters if you do gapps before or after the kernel. And you have to use v41 or earlier of the kernel, not sure if it's still posted, I still had it on my phone.

The latest CM might be an easier option if you're traveling, it's running great for me and the video issues are fixed (still a problem on Build 2).

Ok, thanks. Going to give the CM a try.

All the old versions are listed in the linked dev host folder
