What are the preferred settings in Android email app where the POP 3 EMAIL ADDRESS is used on two devices - tablet and pc. Basically I want to read incoming mail on the tablet but also read msg on pc when back home. If I delete email on tablet will it be deleted on pc? If I reply to email from tablet will reply show on pc?
There are many 'how to set up email' on the Web but I am interested in the 'how to use'.
Thanks Ron

With POP3, to read email on one unit then later on another, email is downloaded on the 1st, but must be left on the server for download by the 2nd unit. So, in the incoming server settings be sure 'Delete mail on server' is not checked (do not delete). The exact wording may be different on your device.

To keep mail from being deleted on the server when deleted on the tablet, in settings be sure 'Sync deletions with server' is not checked (do not sync).

With POP3 replies written on one unit will not appear on the other. For that you need IMAP email service. IMAP would also easily solve all your other 'read here then read there' dilemmas.

Thanks for your help.
POP 3 is my primary email but I also have Gmail which I prefer to keep separate.

Just an additional question please:
Using the settings that you kindly advised, I am able to read emails etc as I wanted. But can you just clarify something for me:

- I have taken off the 'synch' on the tablet email
- I have set my server from my pc to the setting available being:
Keep a copy on the server/remover from server when deleted from 'deleted items'. (Note that I use Windows Live Mail for all my pc accounts which includes the POP3, Gmail and an Outlook).

When I delete from the tablet and then 'delete' the 'delete' ... does this only fully delete from the tablet ... or does it delete at the server?
To 'fully delete' at the server I am guessing that I need to have fully deleted at the tablet and also deleted from the 'deleted items' on my WLM.

Sounds all very complicated!
Thanks
Ron

I really don't know anything about WLM so I can't give an answer. Actually, I'm kinda confused anyway. I can't quite figure out exactly what you're doing with all the deleting...

I had a problem with the native android email app deleting mail from the server even though my settings said not to. I switched to K9 Mail on my N7 and no more problem. When I delete mail on my N7 it only makes it so that I no longer see it on my N7. When I delete mail on my PC (I use Thunderbird) it deletes it from the server. Hope this helps.

Thanks for both your comments.
When you delete from the tablet 'Email app' it moves the mail to the Recycle Bin. You then have to 'delete' it. Once done, you can still pick up the same mail on the pc and it is not until you move it to the WLM Deleted Items bin and then empty this, that it is cleared from the IP server.

I ran a few tests and it seems to behave as I want ... I think :(

Hey, hey ... I hope! Maybe I will have to reconsider 'options' at a later stage.
