Help email attachments

I am unable to download attachments from a pop3 email account. I can download word documents but I have issues so far with PDF documents and Excel. In the settings I have an option to download attachments automatically from my Gmail account and that one works fine. In my pop3 account which is RCN, I do not have that option. When I click on the attachment to view or save it tells me I must download it first, I can't though.

That's how POP3 works - you have to download attachments to see them. If you can't download them, and you have to see them, your only option is to change the account to IMAP.
