Help Email Fail

Carrig

Lurker
I have a Galaxy Y phone which I purchased recently and am now having trouble sending emails from four out of five of my pop accounts. Receiving emails is not a problem. I've also installed the K-9 email client because I prefer that.

I have six accounts which I access through the basic android email client which came installed on the phone. When I configured each of the accounts the send/receive settings were accepted by the setup. However, when I attempt to send emails from four out of the six email accounts (Gmail and another POP account send ok) I find that the emails go no further than the Outbox. When I then try 'send messages' in the Outbox I just get a message 'connection error'. I do all my emailing and surfing using my broadband wi-fi, by the way.

I've checked and checked the account settings of each address and still get messages saying that 'some emails were not sent and that 550 5.1.0 authentication is required to send'. I even get a message which will say that 'authentication failed' or that the username and password is incorrect - which it's not since it's the same as the one I use with the same account in Outlook Express on my desktop.

Should I uninstall one of the two email clients? Should I delete all the accounts and set them up again? Here's an example of how the outgoing settings are in my POP accounts are set up:

SMTP server: smtp.upcmail.ie
Port: 587
Security type: None
Require sign-in: No

When I click on 'next' a check is done and accepted without any failure notices.

So, does the 'connection error' when I try to send messages, which have failed and are now in the Outbox permanently, give anyone a clue as to what might be the problem?

Thanks for taking the time to read this. ;)

Should I delete all the accounts and set them up again?
That would be a good idea.

I even get a message which will say that 'authentication failed'or that the username and password is incorrect - which it's not since it's the same as the one I use with the same account in Outlook Express on my desktop.
This error message generally comes up when a username and/or password has not been entered correctly, therefore the program is unable to authenticate the identity of the user. If you are using a mobile device and you're getting this error, then try to enter your username and password via a pc.

Note: Pay more attention to each letter and/or numbers entered.

Sometimes this happens after a few wrong entered credentials. I hope the above-mentioned helps.

Thanks, Rush, for the speedy reply.

I'll delete the accounts and only add them back one at a time, checking if they're working before proceeding to a second one. And yes, I'll pay particular attention to the username/password entries.

I'll report back when the work is done. :)

Over the weekend I removed all my email accounts from my k-9 email client. I then proceeded to add them all back again one by one - very carefully this time.

I discovered that I had been putting incorrect data into the smtp settings so therefore I was not getting the connection needed to send emails. It was as simple as that.

Thanks, Rush, for suggesting more care in entering settings. It was the solution to my difficulties. :)
