Email Notifications

Newbie
I am wondering if anybody is using the default or gmail as a sole client. Also, does anybody know how to disable one or the other so that you only get notifications from one of them. For instance, when I get a email I get 2 notifications. One for the default and one for gmail. I have turned off notifications on both (separately) and rebooted and sent myself emails and I still get notifications on both. I have also unchecked sync and I still get 2 notifications. I'm kinda undecided about which one. But I am leaning to use gmail solely.

I use gmail only for my gmail and the e-mail app for my other 5 e-mail accounts (none are gmail); using both gmail and e-mail for your gmail is double data useage, double battery drain, double space being used, double e-mail and so on; it is like having a PO Box and a normal mail box and having everyone send your mail to both.

I prefer the gmail app for gmail as you can access and use labels and archive easily.

If your only e-mail address is gmail, my $0.02 is remove the gmail account from your e-mail app.

Thanks for the info. How do you do that and then make it a separate account. I am new to android. Been using iphone since it came out. Thanks for the response too.

Basically you have gmail setup in 2 places. So, leave the gmail app alone and let's take it out of e-mail :D .

One thing to make sure before you delete the gmail account from your e-mail, open your app drawer, select settings, scroll down to accounts and select the Google account.

Click your gmail address and make sure Calendar, contacts and gmail are checked. Then press the syn now. Doing this makes sure when you delete your gmail from your email app, you do not lose anything.

-------------------------------
To remove gmail from your "email" app
1. open e-mail
2. press the menu button
3. select settings

you will now see your e-mail account(s) in your e-mail app.

4. From here you can add a new e-mail address (press the + sign) or
5. delete an account (press the trashcan and check the e-mail you want removed)

This will take g-mail out of your email app; and add e-mail like hotmail, outlook, your work, msn, aol... there as well.

Thanks alot!

What if I want to use the gmail account? Is there a way to use just gmail and not default?

When you send something (like a picture or file), when you click the share option, select the g-mail icon and not the e-mail icon.

yes; unless you turn them off. The gmail and email notifications looks similar, e-mail on left gmail on right
