Help Email problems...

Newbie
Hi guys

I'm new on here, just got myself a Nexus 4 and love it.

Only problem I'm having with it - same as my old Galaxy S2 for that matter - is with the Email app that is built in to the phone.

My main email account is with Windows Live mail (formerly hotmail). Email's come through to my phone fine - and I can read them ok - but when I try to send an email from the account, or delete an email from my inbox via my phone - it doesnt work. When I check my emails on my computer the emails I tried to send have not sent, and the emails I tried to delete are still there.

Is this a known issue? Or am I just being stupid?

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place :)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

Glad to have ya! Just to let you know that I have moved your thread to its support area for further assistance. :)

Where do I find the outgoing server settings? Looked in my email settings on the device and can only find incoming settings?

Thanks

Yeah, I installed the hotmail app on my old S2 because it was easier than trying to figure out the problem...

Surely this just renders the built in email app pointless though? I'd rather use the built in email app rather than take up more storage etc with another app that just does the same thing!

It's right below the incoming settings. Has to be there somewhere...

I use the stock email client to handle 4 accounts. Fortunately, none are hotmail. Works fine.

Yes true it would, the only other thing i can suggest is to try the setup slightly differently, a few places online suggest creating it as an exchange account as below ...

Enter your email account and password
Do not hit next, instead click Manual Setup
Chose Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync

In the Domain\Username field: delete everything and enter your email address
In the Server field: enter m.hotmail.com
Keep the box ticked for 'Use secure connection (SSL)' and keep the box unticked for 'Accept all SSL certificates'

I hope this will work, it seems to create an imap like link instead of pop3 so it should.

Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync

hotmail server field fix
there are 2
debug-m.hotmail.com
snt-m.hotmail.com
for live.com mail
m.hotmail.com seems to still work and push / sync
hope this helps someone
debug has been working for me ..

Excellent, this has worked - email app is now syncing correctly to my hotmail account

Many thanks for all your help! Much appreciated
