Help Email Question

DOOBEE

Newbie
Hi, i have got the samsung galaxy s2 and set it up to sync with my work email. The only problem is that it doesnt keep the emails after they have been deleted off the server. On my iphone, once the email was downloaded to the phone, it stayed there regardless of whether it was on the server still or not.

Is there a way to set this up on android?

Thanks

What e-mail client/app are you using on your SGS2? Maybe there's a setting in there to keep files even if deleted from server

Yeah. K9 is the most-talked about app on here. I personally use the Gmail and Yahoo apps so can't comment on how good it is, but there's already a thread on the K9 client if you wanted to find out more about it

ive just downloaded the k9 app and it has the same problem. It only seems to be able to sync with the email server, rather than actually download emails onto the phone, and keep them.

Unless there's something in the settings of the app itself, I doubt you woud be able to do it. Maybe put a post in the Applications forum and see if anyone there can recommend an e-mail app that will do what you want

There is a setting in K9 to NOT delete emails from the sever, but NO setting to keep emails once they have been deleted off of the server, unless you specifically set it not to poll the server. I assume you are speaking about an IMAP account as POP behaves quite differently regarding server side settings.

Can't you just use POP rather than IMAP?

POP doesn't sync, it just downloads. Consequently, if you were to delete an email from your server (and this is an option with POP when you download emails) it should stay on your phone.

I have to say that POP sucks big time for precisely this reason, but if that is the functionality you want then that should suit you.

BTW K-9 is way better than the built-in email client and supports POP3 and IMAP.
