Help Email sync up

Anyone else having hotmail emails re-appearing after deleting? I have the phone set to sync 1 week and not to delete from the server. It is continually pulling up nearly every email from the server, even after they have been deleted (from the phone account, not server). I am pulling emails that are 2 months old on a regular basis.....driving me nuts

My second email problem is I will receive a notification in the pull down menu of an email that has been deleted already, when I click on it I get taken to my empty inbox.....I'm under the impression Samsung doesn't want Hotmail used on this phone.

I'm having similar trouble with my Gmail. If I read a new message on my phone, it will still appear unread on Gmail.com or any other android devices synced to my Google account. Conversely, if I read or delete a message on the web, tablet, etc, it will sync properly back to the GS3...

Any troubleshooting thoughts?

Welcome to AF, wyoo! I merged your thread with this existing one on email sync issues, read through it to get some assistance :)

I'm having all the same trouble here. I'll read gmals on my GS3, but they'll still appear unread on the web or any other devices.

This hasn't always been the case though. Maybe started a week or so ago?

I have S3, i am syncing my emails with my Exchange account, i have a problem that all emails when it reached to my mobile it got marked with read in both (mobile, exchange) which makes me confused about the real read and unread emails, how may i make my S3 read mails only without chaning its status in exchange .. please help?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I saw that one of the mods had merged the email sync thread so I figured I'd give it a shot in here before starting a whole new thread. I'm using the email app for my outlook work email and wanted to know, does the email count go higher than 1000? Mine seems to stay at 1000 even though I have well over that, this leaves me to wonder if it's syncing my emails properly. Thanks.

With an Exchange (activesync) email account w/ the default email application the phone continues to show email notification (and count on the icon, in the email widget, and the LED) even if that email was read/deleted on another device (my work PC usually).

Here's what I mean:

1. New email arrives.
2. Phone correctly shows a notification.
3. On my PC I read that email.
4. The phone continues to show the notification even after a long period of time. (wrong)
5. If i open the email app it'll briefly show that email unread, but will sync right then and it'll be read (or deleted if it was). This is correct but I should have to do this.

My previous android phone (Moto Droid X) would have eventually removed the notification after I read the email on my desktop. Main in the Gmail app also does the right thing and removes the notification (just point this out to prove this isn't an off-the-wall feature).

The end result of this behavior is that I constantly have an email notification on my phone that is basically worthless when I'm in the office or just left.

I'm pretty sure i see the same thing via push or a periodic (5 mins) sync.

Anyone else seeing this?
Have you solved this issue?
I have exactly the same issue and still don’t know how to fix it.
I am seriously thinking about whether I should keep this pone or not.

I have been a Blackberry user ssincce the beginning and only recently (August 2012) switched to Android - Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE - SGH i757 to be exact. I am self employed and DO NOT have an exchange server at my disposal. I only use the email account from my provider - Bell Mobility in Canada - which is affiliated with MSN/hotmail, but I never access (or rarely) it on he web - I use Outlook 2010 - on my computer. W

When I set up my new phone, everything worked fine until last week when I upgraded the firmware to 4.0.4 (ICS). All of a sudden emails looong deleted returned! (on the phone but never in outlook). Some times open emails would all of a sudden appear unread. This went back much farther than my purchase of the phone (or the new outlook for that matter was similarly recent). I cleared cache and then data and then after more floods and floods of un-deleting and reopening emails I called Bell who told me to delete the email account and then set it up again. Did that. It worked (perhaps) for a day and then it all strted happening again (today). I called Bell back and they said I needed to speak directly with Samsung who told me to wipe the device and if that worked it was a firmware problem and if it didn't it was a Bell server problem. Well, loathe to wipe a new phone I have spent a month "customizing" I turn here and find that this type of problem has been around for a while (although I cannot yet find a "solution to my unique situation") and both my provider and manufacturer throw their hands up in the air and leave us users/consumers to our own devices (pun intended). I just want the emails I've deleted or read to stop reappearing on my phone. I am STUNNED to find out that I should be able to sync everything - how on earth do I replicate all my folders etc from outlook on the phone (like I used to when I "worked" in a large corporation)??? AGH???

i have a aol and yahoo account on my samsung gs3 and i am not recieiving emails from either account both were working fine now they arent. I didnt change any settings

Hi Everyone, 1st time poster..

Seems many have similar problems when it comes to getting AOL/Yahoo/Hotmail to sync between phone and desktop.

I have had the SGS1, 2 and now 3. I only started getting problems after a software upgrade on my SGS2. But the problem still remains and has frustrated the hell out of me.. so much so that i had to use MailDroid and some other free mail apps (which did solve the problem as it happens). But ultimately Samsung's email app is ad free and is native so why shouldn't that work trouble free?

i am away from the office sometimes for days and the last thing i want to see when i return is the same old emails that i thought i replied to/deleted. But that never used to happen regardless of my settings being set to sync.

I think i may have found a solution accidentally this morning (it works for myself at least). What i did was to delete my AOL account off the phone and re-set-up using the 'manual set-up' button as opposed clicking 'Next' and letting the phone doing it's own thing on auto.

As it happened the info in the Manual set-up method did not require you to input any of the information about servers or ports etc (may have had taken it from my auto set-up), so you just click through the set-up assign a name to your account and then hey presto your email account is set-up.

You then go into the settings for the account and tweak to your requirement and then give it a whirl.

Lo-and behold mine has finally started syncing on it's own accord and pretty darn quick too.

I tested deleting from my desktop and saw the same email delete from my phone inbox. I then tried a delete from the phone and the mail in question vanished from my desktop inbox.

May not be scientific but why not give it a go. Having spent so much money on the latest SGS3 32gb it peeved me to think the native samsung email app was not working properly. Samsung need to find a 'proper' solution as there are many who still don't have it working in unison with their desktop email.

For now i am happy as larry. Next problem getting AFT to recognise my phone on my iMac :-/

Good Luck.

Right now I have three accounts but I have to check them on two different icons. Can I combine my gmail account in with yahoo and exchange?

I got my S3 working right now using the "Manual" setup and then choosing "IMAP" for my yahoo account. I just clicked next on the few screens after that and set the frequency check to 30 minutes and everything seems to be syncing now. When I delete from the phone and refresh on the deskotp it's gone and vice versa as well. The only issue now I have is I wish that we had an option to notify the moment an email comes instead of checking/syncing every 30 minutes. The lowest is only 15 minutes or never. Wish it could push the moment an email comes instead of checking every 30 minutes or manual clicking on the sync button to check for new emails.

There are a couple of mail clients that do IMAP push, most notably K9. Stock Android won't, though -- there's a long-running issue thread that suggests the whole push email thing is being worked on behind the scenes, but it hasn't yet appeared.

I had to get my Galaxy S3 factory reset a couple weeks ago. After that, my Hotmail has not worked as being the default email on it. My biggest problem is that I cannot delete the hotmail account. I've tried deleting it through the Settings/Accounts Sync as well as opening up the email account itself. The hotmail never 'synced' and I never received an email or was able to send one out. I downloaded the hotmail app as a work around, but would prefer to delete my hotmail on the default email account and reinstall. Anyone have any ideas on how I can delete my hotmail account without doing another factory reset?

I've been having syncing problems with Yahoo with the stock email on the S3, so I thought I'd try d/l the K9 program. I did, without deleting the other Yahoo program, figuring I'd see which one worked better. But the K9 is not syncing, and test emails go to the stock. Do I need to delete the older account to see if the K9 works better? And how do I get the K9 to open with the Inbox, as opposed to the page that says Unified, All Mesg, and the Yahoo account?

Guys, i have the same problem with my yahoo mail on stock app. Problem started when i did update from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1.

Has anyone found solution?

Not that I am aware. Though I'm still on 4.0 (tho I hear that ATT is getting Jelly Bean now), I've always had sync problems with Yahoo. I tried K9, suggested by others, but found it to not be as reliable as the stock program (I'm sure I"m in the minority on this one), so I went back to the stock. I still get occasional double-notifications of emails I deleted, and other minor issues. But I guess that's just the way it is. My partner has AOL mail (I think he's one of maybe two left that use AOL), and he has the same problems with them as I do with Yahoo, only more so, because AOL is a piece of crap anyway.

I had the same issue with both my Droid X (previous phone) and now Galaxy S3. The issue is that the quick setup for Yahoo mail assumes POP as the protocol (as someone above already mentioned). The solution is to:

1. remove the account (SETTINGS > ACCOUNTS AND SYNC).
2. add account
3. email
4. choose Others (do not choose Yahoo Mail)
5. enter your yahoo information
6. choose imap
7. accept the remainder of the default settings.

Good to go.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was dealing with a completely different issue but this fixed it. I was about ready to go back to my blackberry! Any message I sent from my phone was not showing up on my POP3 yahoo account. By doing this it does. I've spent several hours on the Galaxy forums and no one had this fix. I'm so glad I didn't give up!

Kaida-
Yes, the instructions you used (IMAP instead of POP) does work better, but it still is not what they call "push," where mail notifications are IMMEDIATELY given, and if you delete or move a piece of mail off either the computer or the phone, "push" will display the changes IMMEDIATELY on the other device. There is considerable lag with Yahoo and AOL, and there appears to be no workaround for that particular issue. I have my settings to check Yahoo mail every 10 minutes, and that seems to work for me.
