Email when offline

Maybe a simple setting somewhere that I missed, but when sending an email when the phone is out of signal (i.e. when bored on the tube) the phone won't allow you to send... only save as a draft. It just complains there's no connection and does nothing rather than sticking it in the outbox until a connection is avaliable.

Is there a way to change this behaviour?
