Emailing HTC regarding Inadequate Battery

IIRC, standby time is calculated with all extras turned off. I'm guessing that means that everything the battery page doesn't list as "Android system," "Cell standby," and "Phone idle" would have to be shut down. I could see the phone lasting 6 days that way.

The original iPhone also got roughly 4-5 hours of battery life.

I would definitely expect that standby time is calculated with all extras turned off. However, we're not asking for 6 days standby. I want one day with heavy use or idle. It doesn't go passed 8 hours before I have to charge it. (I guess I'm doing well compared to the masses :)[/QUOTE]

I seriously want to know how HTC tested the DI battery life in the field. Did they say, "Ok, the average person will find an outlet within 3 hours, so looks like we're good!"

All phone manufacturers should consider having a full day of heavy use as the target for battery life.

I talked 40 min on my phone today, used GPS for 20 min and that's it...and battery was down to 50% after stating from 100% full charge. I don't get it. I even keep mobile network off when I'm home (but WiFi is on so I can get email). I don't use any apps.

This seems to be a tough issue but I'll give my quick thoughts. I use my phone like a laptop. In fact it's rendered my laptop obsolete. My laptop on a great day got complete garbage battery life. this phone phone easily out performs my laptop in battery life, costs less, and is still at the end of the day my phone. I really can't be that upset.

It's a matter of perspective.

Why are you guys bringing up the iPhone, which does not even have multi-tasking?

I can understand now why Apple didn't allow for multi-tasking; it seriously kills battery life and requires perhaps a very different memory/power management strategy to allow decent battery life.

I got the 1600 mAh battery from Cameron Sino (mfgr) for $15. On the first charge cycle and it's lasted me slightly longer. I will give it another 10 charge cycles before assessing, but I will definitely buy the HTC extended battery.

Got a courtesy call from VZW today regarding my latest email. The rep double checked that I had troubleshot everything I could. Confirmed with them that I did indeed run through all the checks to ensure maximum battery life, and reassured her that both my and my girl's phones were having the same poor battery life. We both checked our settings, and pretty much got things down to near minimal, but acceptable, settings for radios/screen/updates/etc. We've even deactivated any social networking programs from having accounts to even refresh. Still, we've had roughly 12 hours of uptime before being warned the battery is low (14%).

The rep indicated this problem has been reported, so it's on their radar. To ensure that HTC is also on the same page, she told me she was going to forward my message to them. The only thing she said I could do now was to wait for the extended battery (which isn't in stock yet), or to hope that a software update would resolve the issue. She wasn't an engineer, and she didn't know what VZW was planning to do on the battery issue. All she knew was that VZW is aware of the situation and is looking into other fixes beyond the extended battery.

Whether or not they're blowing smoke up my ass, that's not important to me. We all know more than most employees who answer phones and write the emails at VZW. It's just a matter of enough of them hearing from us to make it a matter of importance to them. I feel better about the battery issue. 12 hours a day isn't the greatest, but this phone call made me feel better about the big company doing something to ensure customer satisfaction.

Plus, I have a 1500mah TP2 battery, desktop charger, and a Seidio 1700mah coming to hold us over till a software update or 2150 battery comes.

LOL so verizon told you to wait to buy an extended battery.... sounds like them. Good luck I am sure they will try to sucker some more money out of you along the way.
