EMERGENCY HELP! Rooting gone wrong...

hxd

Newbie
Hey all,

I am pretty useless at this kind of stuff and "attempted" to root my Galaxy S2 (ORANGE) phone. When it reboots it goes to the O2(!) Welcome Screen and doesn't go any further.

I really need my phone working tomorrow evening as I go to a work event and need it or I will be pretty screwed!

I really need help with this ASAP and would appreciate some help to get it sorted!

For faster communication please feel free to add me on Skype: harry.wiggett12

Thanks a lot.

did you do a back up before you rooted? I have not rooted my GS2 but with my Desire I was able to do a restore and flash the stock rom.

It is likely that the KDD kernel is not compatible with your firmware hence why it is not booting. Do you know what kernel you were using before you flashed? If not what android and firmware were you using?

No I didn't check the kernel before doing it (I know...) and the last update that Kies did 28th October, and it updated the firmware at that point. Android was also fully up-to-date as far as I know, sorry :/

Kies won't show Firmware version now

Nothing changed :/

Still the same O2 welcome screen and then transfers to the Samsung one and back and forth

Still the same, Had to use another programme after, OneClick or something? And clicked Root on that also, perhaps there's something I can do on that?

But still the same problem

EDIT: There is no orange welcome screen, it's just Samsung, always has been. I didn't buy it directly off Orange but it's an Orange contract

So after you flashed the insecure kernel did your phone boot up ok?
Can you get into Recovery? (while phone is off hold power, home and volume up)
Do you have android recovery or Cloworkmode recovery? (it will say in recovery mode at the top)

Was your phone orange branded or un branded?

No it didn't work properly after the Odin kernel.

99% sure it was unbranded...what would the difference be (visually?)

I can't get into the phone at all, won't go off the welcome screen.

It seems like it's trying to boot something it can't...Is this looking bad in your experience?

No as long as you can get into download mode its fixable in my experience.

It would have some orange apps on it maybe? you would probably see an orange start up screen, before you flashed the insecure kernel of course :)

The next step is to flash firmware. You have 2 choices, unbranded or branded?

No there was definitely no Orange welcome screen, only Orange help app, and I downloaded the Orange Wednesdays App myself. Branded I guess :)

Oh wow yeah it was definitely not Orange Branded this is awesome! All my stuff is still there to,

Basically all i wanted to do was apply a nice theme, change the four default buttons at the bottom...do i need to root for that? I quite like it how it is now ^_^

THANK YOU :)

No problem :) you can use a different launcher like Go launcher on the market. This allows you to use themed app icons, and themed launcher.
If you are wanting to change the theme on the system eg battery, wifi and signal icons then you need to root but I suggest you read into it properly first unless you want a repeat of this :D
