Help Emoji Keyboard not showing up

MissKel

Hi there - so my mom just got a samsung Galaxy S4 (I'm on S5). When she presses and holds the settings button on the keyboard she gets the microphone and a few other options but there's no smiley face to get her in to the emoji keyboard? Does anyone know how I can fix this for her? She'd really like to use them.

You need apps and a keyboard that are compatible with emoji. Instead of using stock Samsung text messaging app, download the "Messenger" app from Play Store (Icon is blue and white, don't confuse with Facebook Messenger). You should now see an emoji key show up when you open your keyboard. If still no emoji key, download the Google Keyboard from Play Store as well, should definitely work after that.

I went through the same thing last night, there is no emoji setting in any of the keyboards I use. Seems like the app you're typing on has to be compatible?

Yeah... I was under the impression the S4 came with one pre loaded with the emoji keyboard on the Samsung keyboard like on my s5, a lot of youtube videos and stuff seem to be implying that

There are emoji apps you can add to your existing keyboard.... They didn't work right and I'd have a huge emoji tandem keyboard on top of the existing keyboard, taking up more than half of my screen.... No way. I'd try the SMS app first, since I'd imagine the stock Samsung keyboard is emoji enabled.
