Emulator question

Hello,

Im new to android.

I have a galaxy tab 2 10.1. I dont currently have a pc but i do have wifi.

I understand i can download an app that will enable me to play PS1 games, sega and nintendo games.

Please can someone give me a step by step dummy guide how to do it? Im not very technical and dont have a rooted tablet. Im in the uk if that makes a difference to what marketplace i have and remember i cant use a pc.

I would really appreciate this

Danielle :)

ok so this is sort of a gray area. discussing emulators are fine, but talking about roms(those are the files used for the ganes played by the emulator) will not be discussed. technically those games are considered pirated and we here in AF have a no piracy rule. ( http://androidforums.com/introductions/704-site-rules-guidelines.html#post3504 )

basically download the emulator app on your phone.
you may want to check out the dev's site for more info. there is usually instructions on how the app works
then google for your roms
download and transfer them to the sd card
and then follow directions from the dev's site

sorry i can't get into details as it will depend on the emulator you use.

unfortunately i do not use one so i can't really say which one is better or not.

edit:
this is a sticky at the top of this forum:http://androidforums.com/android-games/376820-comprehensive-emulator-guide.html

Thank you for the reply.
Apologies for mentioning roms, although I cant get as far as an emulator so we ok hehehe

Can i set it all up and get playing without a pc then just using my galaxy tab 2 and wifi?

Hopefully someone will come along who uses emulators and doesnt mind speaking to a novice!

Thanks, danielle

yes you can play them on your tab 2. did you check out the sticky i linked?

you just go to the play store and search for emulators and install it on your tab 2 and then find a rom and put it on your sd card. you should check out the dev for the emulator and see if there are instructions there.

Ive done it all and spent hours today and downloaded a snes one but still cant get games to play. Nit sure if they have to be unzipped first.

Its is snes9xEX+

is this it?
Snes9x EX+

if so, then you need to read everything in the app description:
Description
Advanced SNES emulator based on Snes9x 1.53 with near complete game compatibility. A 1GHz+ device is recommended for best results. For older devices, a faster version based on 1.43 is available for download on my site. This app is 100% free with no ads.
No ROMs are included with this app and must be supplied by the user. A number of public domain games/demos are available at www.pdroms.de. Transfer games anywhere to your internal storage/SD card and browse to them from within the app (default SD card directory on most devices is /mnt/sdcard). ROMs may be in .smc and .sfc formats, optionally in .zip files.
Follow me on Twitter for updates about my apps:

Visit the homepage at Ex Plus Alpha for more info, ports for other platforms, and my other apps.

the last sentence mentions the devs website. here is the link to the info on snes9x+ :Snes9x EX - Ex Plus Alpha

if you read the features it mentions
Supports games in .smc, .sfc, .fig, and .1 formats, optionally in .zip files

ok so after all that......the roms you download need to be one of the supported files. just move it to the sd card. open the app and browse until you see the file and select it....it should play automatically. you may need to calibrate or do something for mouse or keypad support. the info is in the link i provided.

i hope that helps.

Thanks. I have done that. Still not working. Made a file called snesroms. In there ive put the zsnes151.zip (which on the rom site it said i needed) then also ive put the super mario kart.zip. When i click on super mario all i get is "error loading game" which is what ive always had. With any game.

Why don't you get SNESoid? Much better emulator :D

Downloaded that and same issue. Ive created a folder. Put zip files in in. Opened snesoid and found game and wont play zip file! Hence why i thought id try another emulator!

Im clearly doing something wrong and ive put step by step what ive done but cant find a solution :(

I was so excited at getting an android tablet (im an apple person) as i heard all the possibilities. But im having no luck :/

you mst likely need to unzip the file. the emulators do not support .zip files it needs to be one of the files mentioned earlier.

Whichever emulator you're using, check to make the ROM you're using is supported. With SNES, the FX games (Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country, etc.) don't always work with some emulators.

Ive unzipped the files. And it now gives me a massive long lost of files! No pictures though. So how do i know which is the game? Why soooooo many files?

Don't unzip the rom files, it's not meant to work like that.

I use Snes9x EX+ and it definitely works. One possibility though your game rom zips, are they in regular .zip, and not 7zip or rar or anything like that? Because I don't think the emulator can play 7zip or rar.

I often use game console emulators to show some of my friends the games and how they play. Basically because they've never seen them, as we don't have game consoles in the PRC, they're actually illegal. The ban also includes handheld gaming systems like the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, which is a bit stupid really, because gaming on mobile phones and tablets is perfectly OK, as well as PC gaming.

Although the SNES emulator is OK, thing with some emulators, like Sony PSX, they need a BIOS rom to make them work, in addition to the game roms. The emulators can't include the BIOS rom for copyright reasons, so you have to source it yourself. OP you mentioned PS1 in your first post, you'll definitely need the BIOS rom for that.

I know Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario Kart work in Snes9x OK, and play perfectly.
