hi guys . this is one of my first posts so i figured i would make this thread even though there are a few others on tethering lol.

here is how to quickly and easily add native tethering and hotspot to metro zte zmax.

first you must be rooted or temp root. (you dont need r/w permissons)
next install xposed framework. (google. it) install through recovery !!
then install the xtether module . it is for motorolla but dont worry just install it.
activate module (check the box)
go to your apn settings
make sure apn protocol is ipv4 not 6
go to apn type and add ,dun at the end . mine says something like default, mms, etc, dun

save and reboot phone

native hotspot and usb tethering should work fine now
confirmed working on metro butternoob rom !!

Can confirm this works well when connected to ps3. Playing online I experienced no lag. Will only work with frequency band set to 2.4GHz.

Things changed today guys. Starting today T-Mobile (and apparently metro) have started giving free tethering. Any line that doesn't have totally unlimited data can use every bit of their monthly data in hotspot now. For people like me who have totally unlimited data, we will now have 7gb instead of 5gb hotspot.

Also they will no longer cut off hotspot when you get to your limit. Now they will be throttling

that's weird I am on the unlimited plan and its showing 6 gigabytes for me I think it's great that Metro is doing this but for me I use a lot more than six gigabytes. lol . the method that I have explained in this post will allow the user to have unlimited tethering with no throttling in case anyone is wondering. keep in mind Metro can tell if you are using large amounts of data so even if you are using this method there is a possibility they will throttle you.

Can you please point me.in the direction on which xposed to download. I've tried the one from this post and it said while flashing that I had the wrong version for my device.

change your frequency band to 5ghz and try again

I tried ps4 does not find it in networks, only works with 2.4ghz. But I still get the throttled speeds. Here's my set up.

Rooted stock metroPCS 4.4.4

Xposed framework installed

X tether installed and checked

Copy and pasted apn added ,dun to string and switched to pv4.

Restarted phone.

you didn't copy and paste my APN did you? that was just an example all you had to do was add ,dun at the end of your stock apn
