I understand what your saying but if someone starts a thread with the question "How do I root my phone? is the "OP" or the people who take the time to answer the question and guide the "OP" through the root process the real "authors" of the thread? When some one else comes along and reads it for knowledge on how to root their phone who are they getting the knowledge from, The OP or the people who answered the question?
Anyway, it doesn't really matter, it's all good as is.

In alot of other forums sites I visit, the user who starts the thread has an [OP] next to their user name in every other of their subsequent posts in the thread. I feel this makes it easier to see the subsequent progress and/or problems the person who started the thread experiences.

This is the intent of the idea, adding "Thread Author" was to add some description to what just plain "(OP)" means.

Many times I have seen someone else come into a thread and say "me too" or better just continue along and say "I've tried all this and I still can't make it work" and next thing you know you've got two different people asking for help with two different problems.

Yes this. It can get confusing. You're suddenly helping someone else without knowing it and you're thinking of the history of the OP when you're dealing with someone else.
