End of unlimited 4G on Verizon?

Verizon CFO says grandfathered unlimited plans on the way out -- Engadget

"LTE is our anchor point for data share. So, as you come through an upgrade cycle and you upgrade in the future, you will have to go on to the data share plan. And moving away from, if you will, the unlimited world and moving everyone into a tiered structure data share plan."

So I'm currently on a grandfathered unlimited 3G plan. If I get the Inc4G off contract, so I'll be paying the full retail price, will I lose my unlimited plan?
 
Not a good idea for Big Red. With their inferior assortment of phones, I'm sure the only reason a lot of people don't jump ship for the One X or one of the other top tier phones is because they don't want to lose the unlimited data plan. I know that's what has kept me from thinking about leaving.
 
If they do this before I can upgrade I'll likely be done with Big Red. Bunch of Idiots to do that! :mad: :(
 
You had to figure this would happen sooner or later. Take away things and make you pay more. It's the way of all the big corporate business. Cable, Phone, Internet Service, etc... They got you right where they want you; they know you don't need their service. You can go without a feature phone, you can go without cable, etc., but they know you want it and they know you will pay for it. I am on wifi 95% of the time, so would going to tiered plan affect me... no... Not really, but it is just getting to be a matter of principle. These companies continue to screw us and we just continue to take it and pay them.

Right, plus they have a record of how much data you've been using each month. So they know who the abusers are. They could easily just target them and leave the normal users alone.

Maybe they could take unlimited grandfathered plans and let them stay on at the highest tier for same price. A compromise.

Those people would then bitch/whine/moan/complain and likely file some sort of class action suit. Ugh. People suck.
 
The one benefit I could see of this is if you have multiple devices that can be used under the plan. Several phones, iPad or two, laptop access, etc. Depending on the price structure you may actually be able to save money. Instead of $30 for five separate items, if your usage on them combined doesn't exceed the data limit for whatever $150 would buy you under the new plan, it wouldn't cost anything more. If you know your overall usage is is a much lower price tier, you'd save money. Without pricing structure, those are big ifs.
