Ender's Game

That's right, saw the trailer a couple weeks ago. Looks awesome!
Honestly, I've never read the book (I know it's one of those that are usually required in grade school, just not for me), but the movie looks cool. :)

just an fyi it is not an kids book or young adult book. you can find it in the adult sci-fi section of any book store. i really suggest you read it. it is an awesome book. i'm gonna re-read it before the movie comes out.

i'm so excited for this movie!!!!
 
I'll wait for the cable release. Really good Sci-Fi movies don't last long in theaters. Go figure :hmmmm2:. Blade Runner didn't do so well on its initial release in theaters now it's considered a classic.

yeah but then you miss the sound quality of a movie theater and not to mention that the screen is bigger. for me action and sci-fi movies(anything with special effects) needs to be seen on the big screen in a theater, i can understand comedies and dramas waiting for cable release.......just saying.

Neither do Sci-fi tv series. Too many of them have been canceled in their infancy. :(
 
First novel I ever remember reading... but I'm scared that the movie will ruin the memories and pictures in my head of it.

I'm still hoping it's awesome though!!!

And some films can't be duplicated on even the largest of home TV screens. Case in point, a well made Technicolor IB print.

Agreed.

Certain parts of the book were pretty brutal, all of which involved child on child violence. It would ruin it if they tone it down too much. It doesn't need to be graphic, but shouldn't shy away from it either, like the hunger games.

I couldn't agree with you more (on both counts)!!!

If Ender's Game DOES do well, I hope they make the next one following the Ender's Shadow direction rather than Speaker For The Dead route.
 
Hmm. The trailer shows
the climax of the war
... not much left for viewers who haven't read the book, apart from the reveal.
 
I heard about the movie then decided to go out and read the book. The book was easily one of the best books I've read, but I'm afraid the, by reading the book first, I've doomed my movie experience. I've been so let down with movies released of books that I've already read and as mentioned earlier, there's a lot of this book I can't see them putting into a movie.
 
The trailer makes it look like the movie might be pretty good, but gives away way too much of the plot. The thing that made the book so great was finding out all the layers, bit by bit, of what was really going on.

Showing the ships attacking the hive gives too much away.
 
Showing their home planet being destroyed

gives way too much away. The ultimate spoiler.
 
You know, I've thought long and hard about that. Nearly every action movie produced gives away the ending (or a portion thereof) in some way, shape or form in the trailer. Why? Because that's where the intensity and the action is usually at in the movie and by showing the "action scene" they are more likely to get people to see it (I.e. see, it's not some boring movie about kids in space... there is explosions too).

Perhaps, and I could be wrong, we are being overly critical because we know the story and we see that scene and know EXACTLY what it is referring to (while those not familiar with the story don't know it).
 
exactly is how i feel. if you have not read the story then how do you know what is going on? if you read the story then you understand it all anyways......i think the trailer i linked gave away just enough to get me interested in watching anyways.

i finally just finished reading the book and i can't wait to see it now.

Having not read the book the trailer didn't seem to spoil too much. I don't know which specific scene you guys are referring to (and don't want to know), but I'll rewatch the trailer after seeing/reading the movie/book.

definitely read the book....it is a pretty quick read.

I realize that trailers need to be exciting, and typically give a synopsis of the plot, but if you have a big twist or reveal it should not even be hinted at in the trailer. It's like if the sixth sense had told you Bruce Willis was a ghost in the trailer. They can explain the whole boy genius being trained for strategic command thing without the space battles. If they wanted action they could have included the training simulations, which don't appear to be in the trailer.

I can agree with that.

In the nature of my day job I interact with people literally all day long who have zero idea what the story is about but say "that looks interesting!"

I'm trying to not over analyze it (yet). :D

the training simulations are in the trailer....it is like 3 secs worth, but easily recognized....at least for me.
