Root eng bootloader

I'm sure this is on here already and I'm sorry if it is.I'm trying to install cm6 bootloader . Can it be anywhere on my SD card ? What do they mean by root of SD? Once.I go in to hboot should it just recognize the new file ? Is there an easy way to do this ? I was on another site and followed the directions but no dice.can I just do this through recovery?
 
The root of the sd card means put the file dirctly on the card not in a folder. And I assume the eng file is pc36img so once it is on the root of the sd card reboot the phone into bootloader and it should automaticly recognize the file. Hope his helps!
