Epic 4G Problems

I thought red used the least ...

On my 67/TP1/Tp2 which were no Samoled it really did have no effect per say black was still a lit screen as adrift post pointed out, but on a Samoled "black" takes no power from the screen and is truly "off" so in effect using no power from the screen and having that extra battery life.

The only problem I have with the Epic is the possibility of Froyo being delayed further than the other Galaxy S phones. Since the Epic uses TouchWiz "2.5," the difference in UI might cause us to wait just a little longer.

Anything is possible. It might actually make the update easier, as 2.5 lacks features of 3.0, and is closer to stock Android.

Have problems touching the capacitive buttons?

WASH YOUR HANDS. ;)

Slightly off topic:

The leaked BETA Froyo build( from the international Galaxy S had the pinch to zoom out feature on the home screen (just like the HTC Sense). Note it has TW 3.0, not 2.5.

Okay, I don't actually have one, but I've watched every review and I've read nearly every thread about it. I like to do my research before buying. On paper, the Epic looks amazing. However, there are a couple things that are going to drive me crazy with this phone.

- First and foremost, the capactitive buttons look extremely unresponsive. These buttons are a very integral part of the phone and they need to be perfect.

- Samsung and Sprint seem to know that the battery life isn't all that great, despite the screen being S-AMOLED (which is supposed to save battery) by offering the optional battery charger, and also in the phones settings are tons of "power saving features" that arn't found on other Android phones. From looking at a lot of the reviewers battery status screen in the 'about phone' section, the display takes up A SHIT LOAD of battery. More than most other Android phones, including my Evo.

- The notorious GPS problem could potentially be a bugger. Now, I don't know for sure if this is fixed or not on the Epic, but it seems that it still takes a while to get a lock-on your location. And coming from the Evo (simply awesome GPS power), I don't want to feel like I'm downgrading.

These are the three main things I am worried about. I hope I'm wrong, but when purchase a new phone, I always seem to speculate. If anyone has anything else to add that they might be concerned about, please feel free to add it on this thread. I'm hoping that someone with the Epic will come in and prove me wrong.

As a Sprint employee who's had an Epic 4G for over a week I can ASSURE you your concerns are unfounded. I'm a complete skeptic, too, esp when it comes to online reviews and "professional" bloggers. I want to see the proof in my hand to form opinion.

Let me tell you with experience and authority that the Epic 4G is smooth like baby oil on greased glass! The buttons are indeed quite responsive, more so than other Android devices I've used/tested.

The battery life is pretty good for a super-phone with this much horsepower. I have corporate email + 3 personal email accts all syncing through the day. I have 2 calendars + facebook + twitter + myspace all syncing periodically throughout the day. I use Bluetooth and WiFi (when I'm not actively using 4G) almost all day, and use 4G when I'm actively downloading large files/attachments when I'm not in WiFi reach (yes I live in a 4G area). I play an occasional game when demo'ing my Epic 4G for friends, coworkers and customers. I get about 16+ hours from a full charge. I think that's more than fair for all the bells and whistles on board. But you have to manage it smartly.

The "notorious GPS problem" you elude to may effect other Galaxy S or Android devices, but the Sprint Epic 4G has awesome GPS coverage and functionality! I've verified it in front of many witnesses and done side-by-side comparisons with other devices with known 'awesome GPS response' and my Epic 4G blows them away in terms of speed to lock and map display. It's also been verified by many professional reviewers. No worries about GPS.

Trust me when I say: All the reviews and online pictures/descriptions of the Epic 4G do not do the device justice. It's truly awesome and "smooth like butta."

Enjoy your Epic 4G!
