Help Epic turns off when screen is closed

Sometimes when I shut the slider quickly the phone shuts down. Then today it did it when I set it down on a table, and when I turned it back on the battery went from 42 to 12 percent. I then reset the phone and it was at 24 percent. Is anyone else having this problem? Could the battery just be losing contact?
 
FIXED! I put a piece of electrical tape on the battery giving it a tighter fit. Now I can't get it to shut off even if I try, which I could do before.
