Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

the only "problem" i've had was that sometimes when i go into the browser, it'll kick me right back out. dunno. not a big problem though, as i press it agian then it's all good. other thaan that, i am thoroughly impressed by what we have gotten.

on a side note, people have been saying that the sense ui has not been updated... does this mean that we will get more than the reconfigured menus and helicopter view when the ota rolls out?
 
Hmmm...... my phone shows no bars of signal, but when i call it works and I think i can still reciieve calls. When i dial it jumps to four bars. But when sitting idle none.

Very odd!

There is a new desktop clock app that is accessed when pressing the HTC clock widget. Part of that app shows the weather. No matter what I do, it only shows the current weather in Chicago. When I go to the weather app I can delete Chicago. When I go to the clock, the Chicago weather is there. Back to the weather app and Chicago is back again.

My google contacts are now syncing all contacts instead of my contacts. Real PITA because you can't stop google from adding every email address you ever sent something to into your all contacts.

You can change the add contact settings for saving everyone you call and I have seen the gmail option too but I have to research it. Until I come up with the gmail option here are a few good ones.

Call settings: Menu->Settings->Call->Phone Settings

Email settings: Open gmail->Menu->Accounts->Menu->account settings->select gmail account you want to edit.
 
Okay, here is my compilation of issues with the leaked Eris Eclair. If these have been mentioned in the 200 posts before me, I apologize; please add them to the tallied bugs...

-- Shows black screen/silver 'HTC' when pressing Home from any app. Black screen, subdued homescreen with 'Loading' whirly, then homescreen.

-- Confirm relogin to Gmail more than once.

-- Colors noticeably faded from Cupcake build, on all screens

-- Volume about 20% softer than before

-- Only one bar when I consistently got two with Cupcake (which is already poor).

-- All Market apps gone, but I understand why (Google needs update)

This is of course no big deal compared to being able to do turn-by-turn nav (wish screen was Nexus-sized, tho), enhanced functionality with 2.1 apps, and tons of other little stuff. It seems to use the battery more efficiently, though this is only from one full day of observation.

Not regretting getting it early, esp if fixes are coming... no problems with the official OTA Eclair push would be nice too. :)
 
The tactile response slows typing a lot more than it did in 1.5. Turned off it's a world of difference.

Lower tower signal. Maybe it's fixed, maybe what we saw before was wrong.

Fixes/workarounds
If you want the browser to zoom in the way it used to simply open the browser and menu > more > settings and uncheck Open pages in overview.

Apps that don't show in market and/or don't work
Any copy protected apps will not show on the market till vzw sends the update info to google.
Google Earth - installed but when launched does nothing.
WeatherBug Elite - doesnt show up in market.

Words of CAUTION
Don't restore System Settings or anything like that (with mybackup app), as it will screw with the system and mess stuff up.

Just got done installing 2.1. So far i haven't noticed anything hugely buggy, but i don't use many apps. Should we take the .zip off the sd card when we're done?

Also, i did notice that i got an error when i sent a message over 160 characters and had it set to not split. It still went through, but i got the error and it said it didnt send on my end (using handcent)

edit: now im not able to send messages at all through handcent. hum

I don't think I saw an answer to this problem. This has happened to me twice so far today. The first time the sound just randomly came back. However, this time the sound has been off for a while.

Any help?

Nah, having trouble with dropped signal affecting Market downloads for the first time since owning it... whoops forgot to add that to the noticed bugs.

Tried dumping a few programs to get onboard memory back up (97 to 110MB), and some things perked up a little bit, like transitions and how long the 'loading' whirly stays up before the homescreen finally loads. *shrugs*
 
After restoring my contacts from myBackup, if I change the name of the contact it doesn't update on the contact card or the in the "People" section. If I go in to change the contact name again, the new name is still displayed. Not a big deal but something I noticed, maybe I am doing it wrong.

Why are you guys using other than the stock messaging app?

I'm curious, as I was under the impression the 2.1 update would address what issues some users had with the 1.5 version of messaging.

The other SMS programs give other options not available in the stock.

Popups, speech to text, etc... :)

That would be a deal-killer for me. I use my phone browser often and not just for recreational browsing, but to quickly find info in an outdoor work environment (my co-worker carries around a netbook for that purpose.. I've not yet given in to doing that).

- Pictures don't show up in gmail messages, and almost all programs that need to access the the browser fail at doing so.

- The browser randomly freezes and closes with no force close message.

- Handcent is having issues with sending texts. In most cases it says that the text failed to send, but the recipient receives it anyway.

Since 2.1 my BT connection to Car Head Unit (Pioneer DEH-9800BT) only stays connected for seconds then disconnects. Prior to the update, BT automatically connected with no problems.
 
ok so i have yet to see the 3g network on my phone after the leaked update. or the signal strenght bars lie!.... need more bars .....
