Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

I have been reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading ..................Ooops ! I think I looped up there ! Anyway, I have had none of the issues listed in this post. There is one thing I did differently and I don't think that I have seen anyone else mention it. I did a hard reset while I was still on 1.5 taking it back to factory PRIOR to running the leak. This is a habit I got into with flashing custom ROMS to my WinMo phones. It may mean something or nothing. But I am worry free. Only thing that doesn't work is the get more HTC widgets link.

We're beginning to see that browser issue a lot in here.

At first I thought maybe we were seeing an incompatibility with Dolphin or whatever. But no.. ..

I'm hoping that this and the many other posted issues are addressed/corrected before OTA comes around.

I'm just hoping we get the OTA, lol. Caddy is saying that he isn't experiencing any of the issues we are, and his build number is the same as NKT, which is the same as ours....so who is to say that the OTA won't be the same as well, in which case we won't get it. When I put MR2 on my phone by leak, I never received an OTA...so I'm a bit nervous now. I'm hoping they make just a few changes that will warrant a different revision number, thus getting us the OTA.

In a situation where there are conflicting reports of the reliability of a system, such as this downloadable software for the Eris, it seems wise to put the most weight in the area where there is majority agreement, especially over time.

Even if we can't get the official OTA, chances are that we'll be able to download the official release from PCD when it comes out anyway.

just an fyi...the only issue that i have noticed to this point is the sign in bug. i have been running the leak for about 24 hours and things seem great.

BUG: Message threads now have to load each time they're opened. It takes longer than 1.5
I'm wondering if this is a bug, or if it's actually intended. If the phone is storing some of the threads in cache for quick retrieval, I would imagine that it eats up HUGE amounts of resources for those people that seem to think they need to have 3k+ msg threads.

I typically only save mms messages, or one's with important info I may need later. The larger threads are 50-100 messages, mostly being pictures/vids/sounds, and I haven't really noticed an increase in loading time for them in handcent.

Just out of curiosity, I went to PCD to try and find the other OTA files. Do they take them down after awhile or did I look in the wrong place ?

**EDIT Never mind..........found it..

Or perhaps the ROM that everyone used is corrupted somehow...
No, it simply wouldn't work. It won't half-work... The "corruption" was likely done on purpose and was easily fixed. Someone simply used a hex editor or similar to make a tiny change and in fact, left a clue. One of the guys over at XDA easily fixed it.

Using the Quick Settings App, I found this; "No APN configured - mobile data"!
Anyone have any idea how to get that working?
Is this the key to getting the google sign in to not be needed after startup?

Some people are reporting no issues with gmail sign in after reboot. I'd like to see some of them try the Quick settings app and see if they come up with the same result as you are getting.

So, here's an interesting development:

-MY- contact card is synced with my facebook. When I click a contact, there is an option to link to facebook, but no one shows up. I have about 1,100 friends, so I'm told maybe it just takes long?

same problem... theres a folder called facebook phones. which is facebook ppl with their #'s on their profile. sure ok... but the contact card area is completely empty when you try to link he person to your friends. even when i type thee name as it is on FB it says not found......

other than the occasional haveing to re enter the gmail password, and the damn natvie sms popup never going away. thats about all i've noticed.....

hmm swype was freaking the touchscreen out yesterday. i have yet to try it again. better keyboard has been flawless

Anyone have any luck fixing the FB issue. They don't sync at all and when trying to manually sync none of them load.

Any ideas would be great.

Bug: I don't see this posted anywhere... Under HTC Widgets... The People Widget seems to reset itself to not have any contacts saved every time you change Scenes (running Sense).

--And same issues other have listed: Have to sign in to Google every time the phone gets restarted, Handscent won't work, etc. (Just downloaded ChompSMS from the website and it works great so far).

So was the leak deliberate on HTC's and Verizon's part? What a wonderful way to beta test the new version prior to official release and neither party has to waste valuable bandwidth.

you fix that just like you did in 1.5, go into the native messaging app and the go to settings and disable notifications

are you using tapatalk on 2.1 ?

ya i did all the "normal" notification un settings. still pops up ....

yep tapatalk pro works great

So I'm at work put my Eris side by side with another and it has full bars. Mine has one or two. Also right now it says damaged sd card so im in process of fixing that.

I just noticed this on mine after the update and started to worry me that it was showing one bar BUT it was also updating, pulling in contacts etc....I sit under a repeater so -60 1x is the norm for me at work...EVDO side though is far far weaker (not boosted almost pushing the -100 range). I dialed the phone and it shot to 5 bars...can anyone confirm the signal meter changes depending on what the phone is currently using? Data shows data signal, voice shows voice sig? So if you have the "1 bar" problem maybe just showing you the evdo signal strength?

i would think that if it was intentional from them it would have been complete as in not corrupt and needing a patch.

Not sure if this is a bug with 2.1 or with the apps themselves, but after I downloaded Google Goggles, I've had multiple occasions where Goggles freezes or the camera/camcorder app will freeze and not boot up, leaving only a blank screen. The only fix would be to reboot, then everything would work for a bit, but the problem would come back. I tried uninstalling Goggles and reinstalling, but the problem came back. I had to uninstall Goggles for good, and now the camera works fine. It's a shame, because Goggles seems like a fun app... but I'll live without it.

Verizon and HTC people are either following these reports closely -- if this is a legitimate and current ROM ... or laughing and calling us all idiots in case this is an "old" ROM. :p :p

Two issues I came across and seems others did as well so figured I'd add my two cents:

Exchange requires password lock: I tried Touchdown which seems to only request password as often as exchange requires. Didn't like it as much as the HTC version so tried Lock 2.0 and seems to fix the issue. Not sure if it will continue working when exchange requests the password again.

Search in browser: Keyboard has no spacebar. Just hit search again and you'll get the right keyboard. Guessing this is a new 'feature'.

So far loving 2.1! No real issues I can't live with

UPDATE: Lock Screen solution was only temporary. Keyguard disabler seems to be working so far as an alternative

Chomp SMS, so far (*knocks on wood*) no problems with texts! It actually is a better program than handcent as well, muchh snappier :D. The only reason i wans't using it in the first place was MMS..but my MMS doesn't work anyone so eff it. :D

Not sure what this means, but every phone call I made today the person on the other end is complaining of hearing feedback on their end. My LG Dare used to do this and that is why I got rid of it. On 1.5 nobody complained. I did a *228 to update PRL twice... still feedback. Any suggestions?

You can add Flight Director to the list of apps that are copy protected and not showing up tin the market...

It never occurred to me that PAID apps would be blocked...
