Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Someone, i think it was Smacky posted some links to Droid-life.com where the ported nexus 2.1 apps are avalable for download. One of them is the Nexus 2.1 Sense UI launcher, but I can't seem to make it function. The other ones ( Clock, news, gallery, and music)I have had loaded for a couple days and work well for me. I am not so keen on the gallery tho. I like the HTC one better. Loads faster.

edit: seems that there is a thread on the launcher, and it can't be done. Gets stuck in a force close loop.

okay thanks...so the launcher doesn't work but i can still use the others ones right?

So one thing I've noticed about my 2.1 phone is that it doesn't seem to ring as long before going to voice mail. Then I remembered that I'd once changed my phone's settings so that it would poll the cell towers more frequently. Would that setting have been lost during the upgrade? Has anybody experimented with changing that in 2.1?

I realize this would be more of a bug in Advanced Task Killer, but can others who run it see if they have the same behavior ? What I'm seeing is ATK not listing all running apps compared to what you see when holding the "Home" key. I can show (6) apps running but when I launch ATK, it shows nothing running other than itself.

ATK shows your running apps (I don't use it btw, it's not good or helpful for the phone, and can mess things up a lot of you're not very careful, see OTD's post on why you shouldn't).

Holding the Home key shows your 6 most used apps. They aren't necessarily running.

Thus, the "Home" key and ATK will not necessarily show the same apps, ever.

:)

The low-res contact pics that are on screen when I make/receive a call is REALLY ANNOYING the shit out of me...

Still having issues when I use the Notification/Ringtone selector; specifically for Facebook app and a few times for Message App; it freezes the touch input and only the hard End key works, but just to turn off the screen, so I either have to wait for the "error screen" to pop up and pick "Force Close" or pull the battery.

Yay.

In 1.5 I changed the slot cycle from 2 to 1. I checked when I installed 2.1 and it stayed at 1.

Everyone has a right to their opinion...

That's what I didn't realize. I thought it showed you running apps. In fact, they may be running but not necessarily so.

Yeah the others seem to work very well. I like the clock and the music app especially. The only issue i had with the clock is the music button causes a force close, but other than that, they are much better than the 2.1 HTC versions IMHO.

Anybody that is having the cell standby issue want to test this for me?

My battery life has been pretty bad with 2.1 and I have noticed that I am constantly seeing cell standby at 50%, but not having any reception issues. Earlier tonight I needed to charge my battery back up quickly so I put the phone in airplane mode for about an hour while it charged. When I took it off the 2 hours ago I noticed that I had full bars, but didn't pay any more attention to it. I just looked and cell standby is clean. I have also been surfing the web for the last 2 hours and my battery is at 91%.

Test it out and see I'd this helps.

I'll give this a try. I'm not seeing any strange behavior, but just checked and my cell standby is at 75%. My battery has been discharging about the same rate as with 1.5, though. Will let you know how things go...

I just noticed the cell standby at 50% today, was gonna ask about that, but I'll give the airplane mode a try and report back.

Thanks......fingers crossed.

But still, my battery seems about the same or maybe a bit better, however my awake time has moved into the 50% range.

I use google voice only for voicemail.

The GV app doesn't have push -- so instead of having another app eat up battery by polling every 5 minutes, I just have it set to forward the message to gmail, where I will get it in much less than 5 minutes (I don't want to wait 5 minutes to find out who called, anyway...)

So in 1.5, I had refresh set to "Never" in GV, and all was fine.

Now, in 2.1, I set it to "Never", the setting stays that way, but I still get a GV notification in the menu bar that I have a GV message (as well as getting the message in gmail).
So a) it's redundant; b) it means GV is going active and using my battery when I don't want it to; and c) it's a bug.

Anyone want to try and reproduce it?

I had a quick question, in the contacts section of 2.1 do we now have the little bar that pops up with all the options in it (ie. email, message, call)? I loved that feature on the droid but the eris is a better phone so I went with it.

Try going into the people app and tap on the persons contact picture and the options should show up. Let me know if thats what you mean.

So I upgraded my gf's Cricket Eris to 2.1.

First I factory reset (for good measure). We were out of town. This isn't a big deal, except that I don't have her Cricket .PRL file that I need.

Anyway, no big deal, a *228 will fix that.

Tthe stock HTC Keyboard in Messages defaults back to T9 every time (she uses that multi-keying '2-2-2 for the letter C' method). AND, with all the troubleshooting on Planet Earth, I can't get her Facebook contacts to sync (using WiFi to try, to avoid saying "it's a cricket issue").

I knew I should have kept her on 1.5. I figured since she wasn't getting 2.1 OTA anyway, that it'd have to be manually put on, that I'd upgrade her and see how it went.

My first post!

I've read all the threads about the 2.1 update and bugs for ERIS, and I'm having a problem that I haven't seen described yet.

The bug is in relation to Google Voice - which worked flawlessly in 1.5

I have selected to have all my outbound calls route through Google Voice. The problem is that *none* of my outbound calls are routing through Google Voice. I have confirmed this based on the outbound caller ID, as well as looking at my records on Google Voice, and with Verizon.

I have reinstalled the app, confirmed I have the proper settings. I have even turned of Mobile and Wifi to see if the phone app is trying to use Google Voice, and it does prompt me with the "can't connect to google voice, retry with google voice, or place call without Google Voice."

This is a huge problem for me. I need/want all my calls placed to go out through Google Voice - it's cheaper that way ;-)

When I was on 1.5 this worked without an issue, all calls went out through Google Voice, the outbound caller ID showed my Google Voice number, and the Verizon and Google Voice records showed it as well.

Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know of a resolution?

So something weird happened this morning. I woke up to my phone ringing and picked it up but there was no answer and I could hear no static from the earpiece, I hung up and called them back but the same thing happened. The dialer on the phone was laggy as hell too, so I had to reboot. I dont know if this is related directly to the 2.1 update or if it was just something that happened out of nowhere. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Anyway, I rebooted and for some reason I didnt have to log back into google, I think what fixed it was that I logged in through the imap/pop3 option last time i rebooted. Yep thats the only 'bug' type thing I can find as of now.

Thats one of my biggest issues... trying to use the smart dial lags so badly!!!!:mad::mad:. but im sure these are all the reasons why it wasnt the OFFICIAL update.

That is just the oddest thing. My smart dial was unusable with 1.5. I would hit a key and go to the bathroom it took so long. With 2.1 it's instantaneous. But I also have not d/l any apps yet other than handcent, pandora and spare parts. If you install spare parts it will tell you what is using your cpu, uptime for any apps etc.

You need to download a previous version of Google Voice for it to function correctly. Here is a link to a previous version that works:

Google Docs

First, uninstall your current version of Google Voice. Download the version from the link, then go into the file where it downloaded (using an app like Astro), and install it on your phone (be sure you are set to allow apps outside the market to be installed). Everything should function as normal with the previous version. Whenever it bugs you to update Google Voice, ignore it.

I'm having the same problem with Google voice not dialing the outgoing calls through a Google Voice number. I tried the link above to download the previous version of Google Voice, but it just kept taking me to my own Google Docs page. Anyone have a working link to download the previous version of Google Voice?

Wapedia gives a URL is invalid error but clicking open in browser works. Links in email work.

Documents To Go full version is unavailable.

Wunder is copy protected and so unavailable.

That's why I said *I* don't and told you you *can* read OTD's post on why you shouldn't. ;) If you want to use it, feel free! But, glad I was able to explain the home key to you. It's quite handy to get to the things you use a lot, isn't it? :)
