Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Since updating to 2.1 I don't have any battery charge issues that I've noticed.
My cell standby was at 54%, with 50% 'time without signal'.
So I did OTD's test and charged it while in airplane mode, turned it off to restart the counter, then let the phone sit for a really long time (well, about 45 minutes - pretty good since the 2.1 update).
My cell standby is now 61% (yeah, thanks for that OTD... :) ) with 50% without signal
Phone idle is 21%
With WiFi, Android System and Display all in single digits.

So that got me to thinking (everybody stand back) if the phone is laying (lying?) on my desk doing nothing, it seems reasonable to me that the bulk of the battery at that time is gong to 'cell standby' (I'm assuming that this means it's being a cell phone, waiting for a call). I'm not asking it to do anything else, so I'm OK with that.

Is having Cell Standby be a high percentage of usage actually a bad thing? Or is that just the phone being a phone?

The problem that many, including myself, where running into is that cell standby would actually be pretty low. Mine was maybe 15% - 20%. When I "clicked" on cell standby and went into look at it I would see that it was showing a time with out signal and that was at 50%. This was causing a lot of battery problems for me. I guess the phone thought it had weak signal and was really searching for better.

I switched on airplane mode like I was saying and now the time with out signal is gone and my battery is performing 110% better than it was. I am showing 3 to 4 bars all the time too.

I don't think having cell standby as a high percentage is all too bad, but having the phone tell you that it is spending 50% of its time with out any signal can't be a good thing.

I'm having the same problem with Google voice not dialing the outgoing calls through a Google Voice number. I tried the link above to download the previous version of Google Voice, but it just kept taking me to my own Google Docs page. Anyone have a working link to download the previous version of Google Voice?

Same problem I have - it only takes me to my Google Docs account.

I just posted the same thought as you about the battery use info on another thread. But I have the same issue as OftheDamned about the 50% w/o cell coverage and sometimes the battery drains quickly. I'll try that solution and see if it clears that issue up.

I've seen you mention this in the other thread. Just to clarify, in case I (or anyone else) run into this issue after the OTA update... did you only do that airplane mode charge once? I'm hoping so, because I would still like to receive my calls and texts while it's charging at night, in case of emergency, you know ;)

Yes, I only did this the one time.

I've seen maybe one or two people complain about this, but nobody has replied...

Any idea on how to fix the low resolution for the contact pictures? When you make or receive a call the contact picture looks like crap, i saw this on 1.5 whenever you cropped a picture but if you don't mess with it, it looks perfect. however in 2.1 its low resolution and i have no clue on how to fix it!

And one more question about the procedure--did you charge for a couple hours, or can I just plug it in now while at work for 30 mins or so. I'll be able to get voicemail via Google Voice on the desktop. Thanks for all your help!

At the time, my battery was at about 17% so I put it in airplane mode and even turned off GPS. I want to say that it was on the charger for a little over an hour, but not all that positive.

Edit: Apparently someone is saying that it worked for them in the other thread.

Where do you find that info?

From OftheDamned. See above.

One other question: Some who have updated said they dialed *228 and hit program then update cell coverage. I never did the program thing but haven't had any problems. Does anyone know if it hurts to do the program thing a few days after upgrading or should it be done right after the install?

According to Verizon, you are supposed to do *228 option 2 once a month to update your roaming capabilities.

Thanks. I do that pretty regularly (and did that with my other regular phones too.) But others have posted that they hit option 1 to program. I've never done that and don't seem to have issues. But was checking if others have done that as part of the whole upgrade process. Did you?

I had to when I updated my phone. Although I did a wipe first and that restores it back to factory. When you do this, your programing is wiped too. When I installed 2.1 it required the *228 and actually started dialing it for me when the phone loaded. I wasn't able to log into gmail until after the programming, for obvious reasons.

Well like many posting on here, I'm liking 2.1 very much and no major problems. It's almost more like trade offs, some things that worked on 1.5 I'm having problems with, but others that I had problems with on 1.5 are better or fixed on 2.1. Ok, so here's a couple of issues that I've been having.

1) some apps that access the browser within the program are not able to access the internet. For example. Huffpost app now seems to be able to access video and slideshows by using the browser to access the video on youtube. In 1.5, you would just get a blank area if there was an embedded video. My problem is that when Huffpost uses the browser from within the app, I get an "Web page not available" error message in the browser page. I'm having the same issue with Astrid trying to sync with Remember the Milk. Astrid uses the browser embedded within Astrid to access the login page for RTM. So there's no way for me to log in to RTM and sync. I've heard others having this problem with embedded browsers, but then someone recently posted that Huffpost videos are working for them, so it seems some people are able to use the embedded browser.

2) This problem may not be specific to 2.1 as I noticed it occasionally in 1.5. If I have a contact that I have synced with Exchange, any phone number with an extension looks like this in the contact (800) 555-1212 ext 111. The dialer now interprets that as 8005551212111 and then I get an verizon message that the number can't be dialed or is out of service. Google Voice also seems to interpret these numbers as an international call because when I used GV to dial (in 1.5) it would tell me that I didn't have enough money in my account to call the number. If I manually dial 8005551212, it goes through no problem. The problem is that Outlook and Exchange don't have a separate field for the extension and it is just incorporated into the phone number field. But it appears that the Android contacts interpret it as a single number even though it still shows in the contact field exactly as it is shown in Outlook/Exchange. Anyone have this problem and figure a work around for it?

Some other little quirks as issues like the occasional (not every reboot) have to log back into Gmail accounts. No biggie, I'm glad I can now access multiple Gmail accounts.

For some who have mentioned that the phone stops ringing after a few rings, I did notice that there is a setting that I don't recall in 1.5. Settings/Sound&Display/ there is a setting called "Quiet Ring on Pickup" which when checked lowers the volume on the ringtone as soon as the phone is moved (i.e. any motion). If you uncheck this the volume stays at whatever you have it set for even when you move the phone all the way until you either answer or it goes to voicemail.

+1
This was a problem for me if the phone rang while in my pocket and I was walking. I'd get one short ring and then it would go quiet. Turning off this setting has corrected that problem.
