Wish I could say the same. I started out thinking 2.1 was great, but like the flu, my bug symptoms have been getting worse over the three days I've installed and now the phone dialing issue is happening: Someone calls and I think I've answered but I can't hear anyone on the other end. Meanwhile, the caller says it just rings and rings. I got the phone to work properly again by rebooting.
I've posted earlier that there's been no lag, but now some apps, like the phone dialer, really hang. And Gmail login has been coming up after nearly every reboot.
On a positive note, the Huffington Post app works great on 2.1 Videos and slideshow links from the app work great...which they didn't at all in 1.5. But Craigsphone and Phoneflicks still don't connect. And Flixster has connection issues which it didn't in 1.5.
Overall, I think this release and all the variable problems show why HTC and Verizon haven't made this officially public yet. I think they jumped the gun by saying that Eris owners would be updated in 1Q of 2010 since it's obvious they have a lot more testing and work that needs to be done if this leak is one of latest builds. I'm still happy I'm getting to try the 2.1 leak with all the advanced features, but in my opinion 1.5 was way more stable, albeit more basic.
At the time, my battery was at about 17% so I put it in airplane mode and even turned off GPS. I want to say that it was on the charger for a little over an hour, but not all that positive.
Edit: Apparently someone is saying that it worked for them in the other thread.
I've seen maybe one or two people complain about this, but nobody has replied...
Any idea on how to fix the low resolution for the contact pictures? When you make or receive a call the contact picture looks like crap, i saw this on 1.5 whenever you cropped a picture but if you don't mess with it, it looks perfect. however in 2.1 its low resolution and i have no clue on how to fix it!

Anyone? I asked this as well a few times, and didn't get a reply.
When I first installed 2.1, the pics kind of fixed themselves over the course of the day, but since then I have rebooted and for days now the pics are low-res shitty pics.
And as a matter of fact, how in the frick do I change the contact picture for someone, to some other picture of my choosing? I've tried setting the picture manually, but it reverts back to the facebook pic for that contact!
Thanks.
I had the low res photo issue for awhile, but it's gone now and sharp, clear photos come up when they call. (Not sure why-maybe it was the 10th restart of my phone since 2.1 install.) Just give it some time.
Regarding photo, I think you have to de-link the contact of the person. There's a tiny "Linked" icon on the top right of the contact card. It should be green if the contact has a Facebook link. Click on it and then you'll see the linked contacts that the person is associated with. Click on the green "links" on the right of their name to de-link the Facebook link. Then long-press on the main contact photo on that same page at the top right. A selection box will come up to manually pick the photo. I think if you keep the Facebook link active, it will default to that photo.
Let me know if that works.

I did this test last night. I did it a little different since my phone had a complete charge last night. So I put it in Airplane mode, off the charger, and left it all night.
In the morning, I checked the phone and my battery was still at 100%!! I check Cell standby and it didn't show up since it was in Airplane mode and wasn't looking for a signal. I turned off Airplane mode and checked Cell Standby again after 2 mins... I watched my bars the whole time... Cell standby said I had been up for 2 mins and had been without signal for 50%. This happened instantly!
The good news is my battery is working MUCH better... I did my normal surfing and checking of email in the morning. When done, I usually was already down to 80% battery. Today, I was still at 99%!!! I have used the phone quite a bit this morning including a 40 min call. My Up time is at 5 hrs. My awake time is at 1:24. My battery is at 63%. Cell standby still reports 50%... with a time on of 8h 14m 25s. Go figure.
That is a big improvement for me. Not sure what it all means, but I'm happy.
Loving 2.1!

It looks like you actually do have to have it plugged in and charging for this to work. Everyone that has had it work successfully has done it that way anyway.
Navigator automatically prompted me to download the voice "package" when I did something in the app (enabled spoken directions ?).If you are having problems with google navigator and you want text to speech in gps mode you have to manually download an app from the market. I forget the name but if you search "text to speech" that app will come up. Download and install and enjoy text to speech using google navigator.
Its something like "voice data synthesis". You'll know which one it is.
The problem that many, including myself, where running into is that cell standby would actually be pretty low. Mine was maybe 15% - 20%. When I "clicked" on cell standby and went into look at it I would see that it was showing a time with out signal and that was at 50%. This was causing a lot of battery problems for me. I guess the phone thought it had weak signal and was really searching for better.
I switched on airplane mode like I was saying and now the time with out signal is gone and my battery is performing 110% better than it was. I am showing 3 to 4 bars all the time too.
I don't think having cell standby as a high percentage is all too bad, but having the phone tell you that it is spending 50% of its time with out any signal can't be a good thing.
For everyone wanting to try this, here are simplified instructions:
- Hold down Power/End button and select Airplane Mode.
- Plug in to wall charger or USB.
- Unplug.
- Hold down Power/End again and disable Airplane Mode.
Voila, no more "50%" bug. I suspect it will come back each time I power cycle the phone, but it's an easy fix.
I've read through a bunch of these. I had no problems on 2.1. nothing that everyone has posted. Everything works great. weird.
This worked for me.
