Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Is anyone else getting an error when trying to send a picture message? Im trying to send one and it keeps telling me generic network failure....any suggestions?
Since you're the first to report this, I'd say it's not a fault or bug in the phone (or app) and is likely a network (VZW) error. Did it eventually work ?

...with that in mind, I figured the people having problems may not have factory reset their Eris before they installed the 2.1 update. I just think that's a key component to not having problems.
Hate to break it to you, but doing the update via the ZIP file is a "factory reset". It wipes the phone out 100%. It didn't hurt that you did that... but I assure you, it didn't help either. Let us know tomorrow how it's going. :D

xScope works perfectly for me with no link bug ......

and yes I am on 2.1

When I used it for the first time the main screen had a bunch of picture boxes with X's in them. I assumed it was the link bug. So I just exited without trying it. Opps.:p

There's something weird about this though:

After I do a factory reset, the phone asks me to activate by doing *228 option 1 before it can run Setup. When I flash from the ZIP, the phone already has service when Setup runs, and it doesn't ask me to activate. So there's definitely a difference, but I don't understand what it is.

The leaked ROM file may have (actually, it must) the necessary information. The phone is already registered on VZW's network so why it's necessary to "program" it after a factory reset is questionable (I'm not doubting it prompts you to, but what if you skip the step ?).

The leaked ROM does have an out-of-date PRL listing, as I recall. Someone posted the number while someone else posted the number on their phone -- but they also had done *228 option # 2 before posting so they now had a newer PRL.

I'd assume there's a unique numerical identifier for each device that's located in its own non-volatile ROM space, rather than in the ROM that contains the OS ... and that identifier is what allows Verizon to attach the device to the correct account. Otherwise, flashing the device would remove all ownership and phone number information from the device.

Yeap, in an un-touchable area... When you first get a phone and have to "program" it, that's simply to tie it into your new or existing account as well as to remove your old phone (if applicable).

Does anyone have any problems listening to music with speakers of head phones, plugged on speakers and phone went crazy... music skipped tracks it even started making calls.

i looked around for this but didnt see it anywhere. with the nexus gallery on the eris, anyone that has it is aware of the odd happenings when rotating to landscape. if you want to view the pics in landscape, open the gallery while you are already holding the phone sideways. if you try to rotate to portrait then, it'll go all wacky. not a fix or anything, but if you really want the gallery in landscape, this'll work. sorry if this has already been discussed

Yup, I've noticed that, made a post over on XDA forums a couple of days ago about it, no one noticed, lol.

Speaking of landscape, my phone has trouble switching between portrait and landscape modes, as in it doesn't do it all the time. I noticed this in the browser and when writing text messages. The accelerometer seems unresponsive.

Factory-reset my Eris (to fix the YT link Flash problem), then tried to use the browser to watch a YT video. HTC Flash Player worked like it was supposed to... but then force closes on several things in the background demanded another reset (none of them had to do with Flash, Gmail, or the browser). Much like my phone was prior to factory reset/reprogram/reinstall PB00IMG.

Repeated the three Rs... and now things are solid as they were for a week prior. Battery life is great (10am - 6pm and not even down to 60%), GPS on/Mobile on/Enable Always On to OFF... have Gmail, Handcent, and Weather all updating themselves, and watching videos on and off all day (working on my bike today).

I sure hope the next bug doesn't force me to reset/reinstall 2.1 all over again. Redownloading all my Market apps is getting old. :p

I am liking the xScope lite browser except for the 10 bookmark limit. Does the paid app have a limit on the number of bookmarks you can have?

Having xScope as the default browser doesn't fix Wapedia. Durn.

Documents To Go found a way to get the paid version back on my phone even though it doesn't show in the Market. Thank you DataViz!

The paid version removes the bookmark limit, and enables some of the file and task management features that are disabled in the Lite version. Well worth it, IMHO ...

3 bucks?!? I don't know. Do you know how many lattes you can buy for that kind of money???

OK. Bought it. The lite version was working fine but more bookmarks might be handy.

Hey, if you're one of those latte drinkers, you'd better chuck the Eris and get yourself an iPhone. :p

Updated to 2.1 I like the speed and responsiveness of the OS. I do notice my signal reading a bar or two lower. Not a problem unless my battery starts draining. I actually don't mind Google asking me to sign in on a reboot. Extra security. The one big downside is the lack of Facebook photo integration.

I can live with this for now.

The $3 paid version of XScope is all kinds of awesome. Leaves the stock browser in the dust... so much more responsive. UI takes a bit getting used to, but play with it for ten minutes, and you get it. Nice.
