Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

It wasn't really a guess. Unless you have the alarm volume turned all the way down (Audio manager is a great app for setting volumes), the alarm tone set to silent or don't have it turned on at all (little alarm clock icon in status bar should be there if on) then you are killing it some how. There really aren't all that many other options. The best test is to go into the alarm when you go to bed and make sure that it is set and running. Then without killing anything on the phone let it just be. If the alarm goes off in the morning then you have somehow been killing it during the day. If it doesn't for some reason (assuming the alarm sound isn't silent, it is on and the volume is up) then you might have some sort of app conflict with something else you installed.

My apologies, it was an assumption. You assumed I am killing the clock app. I am not. There are no apps installed on my phone since the second leaked 2.1 install so there is no conflict. The clock icon is at the top. Clock is running when I check. Volume for everything is all the way up. The alarm still does not work.

Any other guesses?

Ok this is irritating.

I keep getting com.htc.bg and the force close button or wait. Wait does nothing.

It happens when I go to sync and I know it has to be face book because I've updated my profile pic on my pc but it shows my old one when I text.

I've changed the spare parts thing to normal and not aggressive. Is the only other option turning off face book sync? If so seriously why did I buy a 'smart' phone?

Or should I just wipe and reflash and see what happens?

Approximately how many contacts are you syncing? If there are a huge number, it's possible the process can't handle it. I have 30-40 that sync and have never had a problem.

Not a bug, but a lesson learned today. I installed 2.1v2 and noticed that in the Power Control widget there are 3 brightness settings. (I initially thought there were just 2 and that the widget just did not respond well.) The darkest setting is too dark for most of my uses, but noticed that if I use the mid-level setting, the screen is bright enough for my useage and the battery seems to be lasting longer. I know this is just my interpretation, but I have had it on th emiddle setting the past few days and I have noticed I have around 40% battery when I get home at night where I usually only have 20-25% in the past. Has anyone else tested this out?

I've played around with brightness vs battery life some, but my general phone usage varies a lot from day to day. It would be interesting to look at battery usage as a factor of Display (via the Battery settings) for various brightness settings, but because display is impacted by phone awake time - and mine is all over the place - I don't think I'd personally get much out of it.

I originally used it..but I think it was sucking too much battery, so I went into my settings and manually set mine for 25% and left it.

Does anyone here trust the information under battery use with the 1st 2.1 leak? Apparently the camera has been sucking 93% of the batterys juice and my awake time is 15 hrs. Just a few days ago it was 4 hrs. It doesnt make sense because I've had great battery life. Its 11:30 and it has 58% power left unplugged since 8 am. With 1.5 I would be in the teens by this time. Does anyone have any fixes or can I ignore that info?

I'm afraid to change my home screen's wallpaper.

Ok, this only happened once after downloading 2.1 v1, and I am now running v2, but I thought I'd mention it to see if this has happened with anyone else.

After upgrading to 2.1, I had spent quite some time setting up contacts, apps and tweaking the personal settings (screens, etc.). The last thing I wanted to do was change the wallpaper of the home screen. Well, after doing so I was brought back to the home screen and everything was gone. It was as if all the downloading and tweaking I had done had never taken place.

Although this was likely an isolated incident (I'm thinking my changes had not filed somehow), I am still scared to change the wallpaper on the home screen. Has this happened to anyone else? Is my fear rational?

I searched and searched through this thread and did not find the answer, I truly apologize if this has already been addressed...

When I go to people, I have only the "My Contacts" synched from google and it works great (ie facebook and auto contacts are not synched). When I try "compose" in gmail, handcent, or the stock messaging apps, and I start to type an adressee, it pulls from all of my contacts - including all my facebook friends. Do I have to now create a group in addition to the "My Contacts" in gmail to work around this?

Again, a million apologies if I'm adding a repetitive item to this already large thread.

If you figure that out, please post. I think Handcent has an option related to what contacts it will display ... hang on ... "Show mobile num only" -- "Show contacts with all types of phone numbers". It's unchecked by default. Check it and it should only show 1) phone numbers, i.e. no e-mail addresses and 2) if you have your contacts assigned with mobile vs standard phone numbers only show the mobile number.

I've been having some issues with my WIFI, turning on WiFi by using the shortcut "Wi-fi" widget will not automatically connect to my remembered WIFI connections. In order to get it to connect i have to go to Settings>Wireless & Networks>Wi-Fi Settings

Once i'm in this screen, it will automatically connect to my Wifi.

it should connect automatically to my remembered connection when i turn on the wifi

I'm continuing to have the trackball issue. At first, my trackball slid my screen to the left only when it was plugged directly into my computer. Now it does it ALL the time. It makes it impossible to type at times or do anything else on the phone.
I have tried cleaning it with an alcohol wipe to no avail. Has anyone figured out another fix for this problem?

Haven't read about anyone else having that problem, and it sounds like you've reached the end of what you can do in terms of "user-servicable" action. I'd take the thing to a VZW store and hope for the best.

I'm worried that taking it into the store will result in a note on my account that my phone is no longer under warranty because I updated to 2.1. I guess I'll just have to wait and hope the OTA comes soon, as Frisco has suggested in the 2.1 when? thread.

I guess that's true, but if the phone's already unusable (which it sort of sounds like it is), then I don't really see what you have to lose. If the issue was a factor of 2.1, I think we'd have heard of it before. I do vaguely recall one other post on the matter... was that one yours too?
