Eris: first impressions

I currently have a glyde, only because I haven't been able to get my hands on any other phone that's decent. I'm finally elibible for a 2yr upgrade and am having a hard time deciding between the droid and the eris....I'm just worried that with bigger hands the eris isn't going to work well versus the droid's full qwerty keyboard. I'm a tech geek I love anything new so I'm not worried about working the actual phone. Just the fact of using the keyboard and the phone supposedly being slower than the droid? Any comments that could help? I am able to go thru a partner website (www.letstalk.com) to extend my contract and either get a droid for $99.99 or the eris for free!! So just needed some help on this issue. Thanks for any responses!!

I have had both and I can honestly say that they are both great phones! Yes the eris is a little slower, but its not really that noticeable to me. It has benefits over the droid and vice versa. I traded in the droid for the eris because of my small hands and not liking the weight of the phone. Your situation is the opposite though. If you put a case on the eris, it will bulk it up some. The overall form factor of the eris is nicer and it is more pocketable... I recommend playing with both at the store and making your decision based on your personal preference!

I am new to the whole smart phone thing but after playing with the motorola droid at VZW I went for the ERIS so far I think it is a great phone other than battery life but I got my new 1750 battery today and will have it in there tonight for a full charge and after that I think my ERIS will be the best phone ever...

i had the funniest day today...when i first got the eris it took me a solid two or three days to get used to it with the home and menu button, and how to put on widgets and different scenes etc. so i finally figured it out and got everthing working and i love it now...but today when i had to use my ipod touch...i was long pressing things and trying to find the volume button and everything and was just having the worst time going back to it! it was pretty funny even the apple music player seemed foreign to me :-P

I despise the Moto Droid keyboard . I have average hands and the keys can be more strain on my fingers typing than the virtual keyboard . The top row is too high and close to the top slider of the phone-- ugh. I'd love if there was a version of this phone (Moto Droid) that was keyboard'less-- that would be the perfect android device for me. I'm not interested in a track-ball, etc .

I would sell this and get an Eris, but the fact is, the Droid is so much more powerful than the Eris, and the battery life has seemed to be proven better. Battery life is a make or break for me :).

I spent a lot of time playing with both the Droid and Eris. Finally decided that the Droid keyboard was more trouble than it was worth. Now, with programs like Swype, I don't think I'll ever go back to a physical keyboard on a mobile device.
