Help Eris glitch?

~CJK~

Lurker
My phone frequently will run extremely slow and will freeze up on me. It happens a lot if I am trying to make a phone call or right after a phone call. When I try to text or e-mail, as I am typing for example I will hit the space key and it will highlight something on the screen or if I type "A" it will put a "Z" stuff like that. I have to use the ball on the bottom of the phone because half the time I use the touch screen it registers that I touched something I didn't or just will not do anything at all. I took my phone up to the local Verizon store and a gentleman there told me that my phone's internal memory was extremely low. He said delete apps I don't use, delete my texts everyday, etc. etc. he said nothing was wrong with my phone except the low memory. He did say that my SD card had plenty of room. I miss important phone calls because when I try to answer my phone it glitches and I can not even answer my phone sometimes.

I have come extremely close to smashing my phone into pieces because of this aggravation. Any possible solutions?

Thanks,

That is a common problem with the Eris. The phone's call log and your texts will use up a lot of memory. At this point, you probably have too many for the phone to delete themselves. You can try downloading "delete old messages" from the market to see if you can clean it up that way.

The other option would be to root it and install a more slimmed down ROM. This process will delete everything off of your phone, so you would have to set everything back up again, but it can give you lots of extra space for more apps and will get rid of the call log and text messages as well.

what is the chance that rooting my phone will end up bricking it? I was told that my phone could possibly be unusable if I tried to root it. Is it a big threat or is it avoidable?

It is almost completely avoidable (nothing is 100%) if you use the right method. The safest, most well documented, and best way to root your Eris would be http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/127861-universal-eris-root-dummies.html

Don't just jump right into rooting. Make sure you read through the steps and understand them before you begin. Also, that thread tells you to flash a now outdated ROM. Instead, use this ROM: [ROM][GPL][3/15/2011] xtrSENSE5.0.1 [cache2cache,apps2sd,oc,jit]-HTC Sense - xda-developers. It will automatically give you space for tons of apps.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
