Eris OTA Update

oooooooooooo.....you ruin everything

Hello? Vampire......female.......evil......in my nature.

After April 1st, Verizon is going to turn our phones off too and make us buy new ones.

Heck, I'm easier than that; they don't have to turn off my phone to make me buy a new one. All they have to do is give me a good deal on an upgrade.

Which they do. ;)

Has anyone heard anything about the update? Every time I see that someone has posted something on here, I get excited, and then see that they just wrote about already having 2.1.

Don't toy with my emotions, people :-P

Might be a while guys....since the Droid update for today has been rescheduled with a date of TBD, which stands for Too Bad.....Dorks!

Good. They've likely discovered things to fix before releasing it. Apparently it did not pass final inspection.

Wonder if it was the OTA delivery again... They should just post and give people the option to download it and install. I know this opens up a can of worms for Tech and Customer Service, but this doesn't do much for Verizon's image either...

I can't imagine they found an eleventh hour bug that stopped the process. But who knows...

From what I've read over the past few weeks, the issues have been in the way the upgrade was to be distributed/applied, rather than the OS itself.

That makes sense, too. I remember that issue coming up before, but I don't recall seeing real quotes or data about it.

I totally agree with that. This is a huge download and I really can't imagine why they would do OTA on this. Some will then have to wait for days for it and the phone calls would be overwhelming. Phone down for at least 15 minutes during the morning commute could be a disaster for those needing to be in communication during that time. IMO, OTA should be reserved for bug fixes and simple updates not supplanting an entire OS.

Today..I had to call Verizon on a completely different suject...for some reason the Techie asked me what software version I was running.. Mind you my call had nothing to do with the Eris itself. Is Verizon trying to catch people who wanted to upgrade without thier blessing?

There have been 2 updates to the software since the Eris' release. I'm sure he/she was referring to that. Verizon tech support and Verizon customer service don't know and don't care about 2.1 until it is officially released.
