Help Eris REALLY slow. help!

So, ive had my Eris since they were new. Moneys tight so if i can keep this running i will. It has been super slow lately. I deleted the internet cache, the old txts, and all extra apps. When i dial a phone number and hit send, the phone will take 2-3 minutes until it dials, and sometimes the screen blacks out before dialing too. If i hit the send button while it is thinking about dialing, it will dial the number again while on the phone. When i hang up, it shows that i was talking to someone and will show the same number as on hold. The phone in general has been laggy too. I am running 2.1.
Please help!

Welcome to AndroidForums.com.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a common experience with the Eris. I had that same problem with dialing even though I was deleting my call logs.

Anyway, that's where I would start. You mention that you have deleted old texts, but if you are storing all of your call history, I believe that slows the phone down as well. There is an app that can automate this for you, called Call Log Trimmer, that will delete call logs from the phone as you make and receive calls. I used to have my phone set to save only the last five calls. That's a start. (I also found that shutting down and restarting the phone solved a lot of the phone call delay.)

The other option is to root the phone and install a custom ROM that is faster and gives you more space for applications and data. xtrSENSE is almost exactly like a stock Eris, except it is missing one or two pre-installed apps. You can actually root the phone, install the custom ROM and keep your data if you follow some pretty easy steps. It's up to you, but that is one solution.

The other, if you want to stay stock, is to do a factory reset and start all over from scratch. That can be a pain in the neck, but it does resolve a lot of the slowdown issues.

Whichever thing you want to try, let us know and somebody will guide you through all of the steps.
