Eris Source Code Released...Again?

I think the blog post is confused, just the Legend / Incredible must have been released. If you click through to developer.htc.com, you can see that the Eris source was released on 02/01/2010....

No, the Eris is there. New kernal with the date of 4/30/2010.

Weird... when I go to developer.htc.com, here is what I see:

Maybe it's still rolling out?

Some people are seeing the older version, others are seeing the more recent one (4/30). I dunno what to say.

All I want is the damn root.

Should we start up a prize fund for whoever can root this thing? I say we find devs that have successfully rooted other phones and propose the project to them. I'm pretty sure they'll have it done within a week. Well, if the prize fund is big enough. ;)

Cool! That is the kernel version associated with the 3rd 2.1 leak (comparing the filename to the kernel version in the phone info). Looks like OC is on the horizon for the root users. For us leakers, who knows...

If it was a matter of money, I'd be willing to donate a little for it.

I can't give much but if a bunch of us commit to just a few dollars, it will add up. So who has been successful with rooting? That's who we need to contact.

ok... I read somewhere on the other thread that someone thinks that the OTA will be coming soon (maybe) and that it most likely is similar to (if not actually) the 2.1 v3 that everyone has dl....

i sure as hell hope it isn't because I have had a HORRIBLE time with v3

Some people seemed to have a horrible time with 1.5 bugs that most others didn't experience. v3 may, indeed be it. However, Smacky said in another thread, and I believe it to be true, that we are probably getting betas that are a couple of versions behind what is actually being tested and used by Verizon. I bet that many of the bugs that we have seen in v3 will be fixed. As for that 50% bug? I looked at my girlfriend's Moto Droid and hers had that same bug. Not sure if it's there after the update but I do remember looking and seeing it there.

Im sorry this may be a dumb question, but what does this mean with this being released? Does that mean we will be getting the 2.1 update soon?

Basically it means that the lastest 2.1 leak can be rooted, but no, it really means nothing as far as releasing the OTA unless 2.1v3 is really the OTA.

Oh ok so this is just basically good for people who rooted their phone unless like you said 2.1v3 is the OTA. Thanks

No...this means that it COULD be good for those who are on the 2.1 leaked versions and who will eventually go on to the OTA.

The source code was released for 1.5 and the developers could not seem to find an exploit, despite. As I understand it, 1.5 was able to rooted because someone "handed" an unsigned 1.5 version over to people who were working on rooting the Eris. This means that an exploit was never found and further efforts to find an exploit for 1.5 were no longer needed. I don't know exactly what happened but I think that a loose knit crew of devs continued to work on a 2.1 root. It hasn't been found...perhaps the source code will help someone to finally get it.
