Hi folks!
This inquiry is a little different than the normal inquiries about tethering (laptop/desktop computer tether via phone) - in this case I want to (occasionally) tether a Nexus 7 tablet to my Eris. Unfortunately, the N7 doesn't operate in WiFi ad-hoc mode afaik.
In the past I have used wireless tethering (wireless-tether-2.0.2-pre, Conap CFS kernel) for other tether devices (e.g. iTouch devices), but it only works in ad-hoc mode. Last night I tried Bluetooth tethering, and unfortunately it causes an immediate reboot of the Eris at the first use of the BT tether connection from the client tablet. I tried the wireless-tether-3.1-beta app - but it appears the developers have removed BT tethering. (It does support infrastructure mode WiFi on some specific phones, and there are reports here on AF of successes using it on closely-related phones. One of the phones it supports is the Hero CDMA - but for this variation it doesn't support infrastructure-mode).
I also tried the last 2.x series release (2.0.8-pre), and while ad-hoc still works on my GB ROM, it's BlueTooth tethering mode also immediately reboots the phone. (Note that I tested this on CS-CCM7.1-v21; but even the current CM7.2 stable releases for the Eris use the same kernel, so I suppose I probably will have the same BT result on Eris CM7.2 ROMS)
Next up I tried "USB Tethering". The Nexus 7 supports a wide variety of USB devices through a "OTG" cable adapter (USB "On The Go") & CM7.2 has USB tethering built in, so I loaded the CM7.2-stable release (June 2012). Trying to enable USB tethering on the phone, the CM menu reports "device is not connected", so I suppose the CM USB tethering only works with PCs and a special driver.
Anyway, if anyone can shed some light on this, I'd be grateful - I'm looking for a known-working tether solution for tethering a tablet (not a PC/Mac) to the Eris that looks like one of these three options:
- Eris wireless tethering in infrastructure mode ?
- Eris Bluetooth tethering that works ?
- Eris USB tethering to a tablet (NOT a PC) via OTG ?
Can anyone report a success for any of these cases?
