anywho moral of the story is its possible to have lots of phones as a youth and not be a brat! Just gotta work hardI'm glad you said so, because my very thought was, "This is some spoiled kid." I would think most kids would get one cell phone if they get one at all, and they'd have to use that one until it fell apart.

I'm 18 here... part of the low number of teens are here I guess. Anyways, I too have had my fair share of phones already but every single one I paid for myself. I started when I was about 14 when I got a tracfone. Next I got a cingular prepaid phone and after that a virgin mobile one... all of which I paid for myself with my stinky paper route money. But, when I got a job at Mcdonald's I had an increase of income and finally convinced my mother to let me sign up for a tmobile contract in her name. I got a sidekick id, after that I had a sidekick 3, and 2 sidekick lx's but those phones were pieces of crap so I canceled my contract and finally signed up to verizon. First phone on there was a BB curve and a few months ago I got me an Erisanywho moral of the story is its possible to have lots of phones as a youth and not be a brat! Just gotta work hard
I think I read about that in the news, or something similar. I do not understand the whole sexting thing, I for one would never do that. Girls do it all the time (girls at this age have some pretty shitty self confidence). Kids have gotten in trouble for doing it around here but living in a wealthy area they just have there parents pay the judge off (I am not even shitting you)Let me tell all of those "kids" something. My grandson is 12 and his buddy is also 12. Why they need a cell phone is beyond me, but it's what kids do these days and what the hell. Anyway, my grandson's buddy (I'll call him Jim) was talking to a girl, as 12 year olds tend to do as they discover certain working parts of bodies. This girl told Jim that if he sent her a picture of his junk (that's male organs just in case you didn't know) that she would return the favor by sending a picture of her goodies, down there. So Jim sends the photo and about 15 text messages, and during one of those text messages says one word that pisses the girl off. She finds him in the halls and calls him a man whore for showing his junk. Jim calls her a bitch for not sending her photo as she had promised. When he called her bitch, it set off that thing girls have in their brain that is set to explode when a guy calls her a certain word. She gets mad as hell and to teach Jim a lesson she goes home that evening and telss her mom and dad that some perverted boy has been bothering her and has sent her obscene pictures of himself.
Jim is 12 years old remember. He was arrested and hand cuffed and was charged with 3 felony counts of sexual perversion with a child. If convicted, he faces jail time until he reaches 18, probation after that, and for the rest of his dumb ass 12 year old til forever life, Jim will have to register as a sex offender where ever he goes. He was kicked out of school or 3 days, even though these texts and photos were supposedly sent outside of school. He is banned from participating in any school programs outside of class. That means he can not play football as he had this year, and will never be allowed to as long as he is in school. He has to shower by himself and can not be in the presence of any other people while he is naked, and he must be accompanied by an adult male whenever he is showering or naked in the school. All this because he sent a grl a picture of his junk.
So "kids" out there who have parents who let you have a phone, be smart enough to prove to them that you are responsible and that you would never be as stupid as Jim. By the way, Jim went to court. Because the judge realized he was just a 12 year old learning about girls and whatever, she gave him a break. He is on probation until he turns 18. As long as he never does anything sexual or sexually perverted until then, he will not have to do all of that other stuff I mentioned. And if he is a good boy until he turns 18, the whole thing will be expunged from his records. Even so, don't even think about being as stupid as Jim was. The District Attorney's Office wanted to jack him up to the fullest extent of the law to teach other kids a lesson about being a pervert with a cell phone. He has to walk on eggshells for the next 6 years. If he so much as gets in trouble for anything, he goes to jail, has to register, and all of that other stuff. Just be smart enough to be able to tame your raging hormones to a point that you don't take a picture of yourself that you will regret. Even having a picture like that (any nudity of a person under 18 - or any nudity possessed by someone under 18) on your phone before you are 18 is a violation of the law. Be smart and stay out of trouble if you want to prove to your parents that you are responsible enough to have that phone.
A neighbor of mine has some kids that are 10 and 12, one has an iPhone one has a Blackberry.lol well i just got back from verizon with my best friend, her mom and little bro and sis
they are twins so tell me why one has the droid & the eris
and the funny thing is...neither know what Gmail is...
i now know the youngest smartphone owners
I hope the OP doesnt mind, I am going to ask another question ... Since a majority of us are 30+ and no one has admitted to being younger than 20 ... how many people have kids younger than 18 and do they allow their kids to have a phone like the Eris? Or even a cell phone at all? At what age did you let them have one or at what age will you let them have one?
My kids are 9, 8, and 6 ... none of them have a cell phone at all and I am not sure at what age I will get them one.
I'm 35, although I have been telling people 34 for months because I forgot I got older. Don't know what that says about my mental state...lol.
To answer the question, my boys are 14 and 13, and I JUST got them phones at the beginning of the year, simply because they are starting to get out more and be more active with their friends. Its much easier to keep track of them and get hold of them as needed now. Before this year I just flatly refused to buy them phones as I saw it as unnecessary, even though they badgered me constantly for them.
That's a bit controlling...alright I'll spill the beans I'm probably the youngest guy on here (16...). Before you jump me and call me an idiot here me out. I got my first cellphone last year, didn't really think I needed one but now that I have the droid I can't imagine living without it. Tracking your kids via GPS is pretty damn paranoid, my parents are pretty strict, I have a job and that's how I pay for my cellphone, if I don't give them the cash bye-bye phone service. My parents think its crazy that parents track there kids and read there text messages (my aunt does this to her kids). Given that allot of you are 30+ I would assume you would have this mindset but keep in mind allot of these smart phones and\or apps are targeted at kids my age.Google latitude and Verizon chaperone are your friends.

Now I personally think that kids <15 shouldn't have a cellphone but I can pretty much guarantee that in less than 5 years that's going to be equivalent of saying you shouldn't have a car tell your 35.
Now to play devil's advocate, if I had kids and I was somewhat nervous about there maturity I might hold off on getting them a cellphone, I might even block picture messaging or something of the like, but generalization's towards any age group don't always work. I could say all people 35+ don't need a smart phone because there too technology illiterate to figure it out but that's not true, my dad can barely figure out his dumb phone yet I know a 45 year computer wizz that knows more than I do about smart phones. Awww you're younger then me...By one year haha
I do think there should be some boundaries...My parents and I don't have a strict relationship...I do what I want because I now the difference between good and bad...I don't drink or smoke...I might stay out late but I always let my mom know where I am going or who I am with...I feel like by constantly swooping over your 15,16, and 17 year old kids....you're pushing them towards the need to break rules and hide stuff...
It's nothing wrong with wanting to see what you're kids are talking about every now and then because you're our parents...it's something wrong that if i put my cellphone down and go to the bathroom and come back...my mom is going though my texts...this hasn't happened to me but it's things like this where secrets and lies appear.
. My parents do ask me what's going on, usually everyday and by staying open with them there hasn't ever been any trust issues with them. I don't smoke at all (I have asthma) and I don't drink (at least not too much haha) so they can trust me pretty well. That's a bit controlling...alright I'll spill the beans I'm probably the youngest guy on here (16...).
