Eris Users Rejoice!

Yeah, a lot of people think the Incredible is better, but in reality, it's just a faster Eris with a slightly larger screen. It has most, if not all of the bugs Eris users report. Thank God I don't suffer from any of those bugs (yet). The day I do is the day I root my phone or disable Sense.

What about the ability to initiate a call with your blue tooth? Hitting the button on the earpiece? The eris, is not equiped for that, but I was told the Incredible was.?????

Frisco, are you absolutely positive if I root then the silent bug won't show up?
What/which ROM do you mean?
Although I am computer guy I am it afraid to mess up the phone....
Any good step-by-step installation istruction for that particular ROM?
And lastly, is there a way to reverse back to the state prior to root (if I don;t like it)?

Appreciate it.
Peter

No; I'm not absolutely sure that rooting to a non-Sense ROM will cause you to never see the silent bug on that device again.

I see two schools of thought on that bug: 1. that it is hardware related and no matter what OS or ROM you run, you'll see it crop up, and 2. that it is Sense related and even shows up in devices other than the Eris which run Sense, such as the Incredible.

I think the best way to eliminate the Sense possibility is to do one of the things rooters have been waiting to be able to do: remove Sense.

If your hardware is bad, rooting or any other remedy besides replacement will have no effect, so root to XTR or any other non-Sense ROM to find that out. ;)

Most people seem to suspect that the issue is a compatibility issue with Android 2.1 and HTC's hardware. It's not tied to Sense... or so it's thought...

For me, this issue is getting to be too common and a pain in the *ss. My problem is, I haven't found a non-Sense-based ROM that I've liked well enough. Or, if I did like one or two, it had some "fatal" (to me) flaw.

The HTC/Android incompatibility is a startling notion to think, but perhaps a true one.. what an embarrassment for HTC, in my opinion.

As for ROMs not based on Sense, I keep seeing good things being said about lightningbolt and XTR. XTR is mine for now.. I'm not a good test of the silent bug thing being cured by rooting, though, as I have never experienced the bug in my device no matter what I was running (that is what sometimes leans me toward hardware as the cause of the silent bug).

Looking at screenshots of XTR, I see either very good imitations of HTC apps (dialer, people, status bar) or it still has bits of Sense left in it.

It has a lot of HTC stuff, that is what attracted me to it, but with the options to hone it down to what you want to keep.

Have a read at the developer's XDA posting (maybe that's where you viewed the screen shots):

[ROM 7/3/2010] xtrROM3.0.1 [apps2sd,jit,lwp,nav,oc]-Vanilla that embraces HTC - xda-developers

From the list of features:

"Vanilla feel from removing HTC 'bloat' while embracing reliable HTC sync and app coordination."
