Help Error 98 after recent update..anyone get this?

i actually just went to complain to the corporate store about people getting credits to cover the cost of the swaps... they gave me a 20 credit, AND they told me that they were aware of the issue, and that there will be an updated firmware out within 2 weeks. so at least they are admitting there is an issue and they are trying to fix it. or they are flat out lying to me... this remains to be seen....
 
Wow, welcome to the forum, sorry to hear you are having so many problems. Horror stories like this are the reason I haven't updated my phone. It's good to hear that Cricket is at least admitting the problem now and supposedly working on a patch. You could flash the modded stock ROM from Cricketusers forum. That's the only solution I've seen so far. Good luck!

Actually when I was at the corporate store someone else was in there for the same issue and I told him I had seen to do just that and the store manager overheard me say that, and she told me if I did that it would void the factory warranty.

Then OMG did I have some more problems yesterday. Ok so they applied the $20 dollar credit to my account to pretty much refund the $20 that I needlessly spent on the warranty swap. My wife has the lifeline credit on her account. I had told the representative that at the end of the month we would be combining the accounts to the "family plan" (2 smart phone plans for $100-which will save us $10 per month) yet they still put the credit on my account which will be closed at the end of the month. I requested the credit be put on her account since hers is to remain open. They told me there was no way to swap the credits. So I called Cricket customer service to try and get help that way. The representative name was Bob, yet he could barely speak English, much less understand me. He said well don't worry sir you won't need that credit because when you combine the accounts, it will only be $15 to add the line and first month of service will be free. He could not understand that if I had not been told to do a needless warranty swap it still would only have been $15 to combine the accounts. So I asked to speak to a supervisor. Whose name was Tommy yet he too had the language barrier. I explained everything again and he too was just a waste of breath. Then he started getting an attitude when I told him that his answer was unacceptable. He actually asked me if this $20 is so important then why am I bothering with combining the accounts!!! What benefit will it be to combine the accounts!!!I said oh my God, did you really just ask me that? He says it's only gonna save you $5 per month. I said, actually it will be $10 per month. Then I asked him if he wanted to permanently lower my bill by $10 per month, or better yet, why doesn't he just send me $10 per month of his own money? Then I said can you please just transfer me to a call center in the United States? He replied we don't have any. If I wanted help over the phone, I would talk to him. If I wanted customer service from the United States, they have stores for that, then hung up on me.

So sad, Cricket get your sh*t together! But sometimes you just gotta:rofl:
 
I'm going to go ahead and say I work for another cell phone company I have troubleshot phones for years I'm well versed in cell tech. After explaining that to two cricket agents and even answering their troubleshooting steps before they asked them they sill gave me the run around I'm gonna try a third tomorrow and try to go straight to tech. I will say as far as the mms issue it is a data connection issue while on wifi only turning off wifi corrects this temporarily as far as the error 98 I have only gotten it once but the call still worked so more annoying than anything. I will also say please understand frontline cs may genuinely not be aware of the issue or that is the scripted error they are made to say helices me as a certain I would much rather give a real answer but sometimes our hands are a little tied.kinda like being the private that just carries out the generals orders without any idea why. Please keep that in mind when talking to them. Ill post any findings after my call tomorrow

This is due to background data applications running and syncing while on calls. This issue will usually occur while your in a low data coverage area and on a call. If you should experience this issue when on a call, change the settings on phone as detailed below:
  1. Select Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync > Background Data
  2. Uncheck the box.

ve it. i ooened uo this page cause i too wanted to read about the new firmware update notification i received thank God i didnt do it cause it sounds horrible. i had the ascend 2 for the longest time and hated it and constantly had to swap it out .it costs $20 which is worth it. however what i wanna let u guys know is that thwy give u refurbished phones. go into ur settings then go all the way down to about phone and click on device info and click on refurbish.info and it tells u the date and time and how many times it was refurbished. watch out cause what u may think is another online update problem could possibly be the problem the other person was having on why they swapped it out in the first place. now not everyone will get a refurbished phone but a majority of u will. thanks to all of u i wont be doing this update but im sorry for those of u who did n r having problems.
 
That is a good point. Welcome to the forum! Hope you have better luck with your Mercury! I've had mine since December, and still on my first one without problems. (knock on wood lol)
 
I've been having the same problem with my mercury, during mms, outgoing and incoming calls. Mind you, i I'm rooted and I've never updated my mercury. HOWEVER, I had a brand new original mercury with no muve, music, muve update or muve app. Then i got it wet, and had to get a refurbished. That came with muve update. go figure, so i rooted, never updated again, there were like 2 or 3 more updates that i didn't do. Now i get the error 98 and a error 68 i believe, which is the text, 98 the phone calls
