Root error scanning partitions

I've recently successfully rooted my thunderbolt. I installed busybox using the market.

I want to install a custom ROM on my thunderbolt, and the folks over at liquid smooth roms recommend rzrecovery for wiping ones system/data and such before you install a ROM.

So, I copied flash_image over to my phone, in the system/xbin directory, and try using it on the rzrecovery .img file:

flash_image recovery /sdcard/rzr-2.0.3.img

And I get "error scanning partitions".

This happens even if I copy the file to /data/local/.

What should I do? Exact commands would be nice, since I'm extremely new to Linux.

I've can't find rzrecovery for the bolt. I would suggest trying cwm or twrp both you just flash in hboot

To my knowledge, rzrecovery is only for the Droid. With the thunderbolt you can use Amon_RA,twrp,or clockwork.

Seems you are making this a lil more complicated than you need to.

Install your recovery of choice in hboot,as a PG05IMG file. Flash your rom of choice in that recovery after wiping data/cache/dalvik and formatting /system(if you want to be 100% as cautious as possible)
