Help error when connection galaxy s2 to usb

Are you doing it in the right order?
With the cable attached to the phone (and not the PC), go in the Settings>Wirelessblah>USB Utilities and press connect, then a pop up appears, it is at this moment you plug the other end of the cable into the PC, and then you press connect again after a bit.
