ES File Explorer Problem with Lenovo K3 Note

Machu

Lurker
I installed 'ES File Explorer' app in my newly bought Lenovo K3 Note. Soon after I noticed that I can't delete or rename any file in the external card using the app. Its working fine when editing any file in the internal memory. The inbuilt File Browser lets me edit all files irrespective of whether its in Sdcard0 or sdcard1.
When I try to edit any file in the sdcard1, it shows an image which says "Please choose the root directory STRONTIUM(/storage/sdcard1) of ext-SDCard to grant ES permission to operate." and also shows step by step instructions for how to do it. Which is "Open from - > recent - > ... - > show SD card-> SD Card-> select 'SD Card'". But when I try following the steps I can't find' show SD Card' in the options. It only shows "Hide file size".
Can anyone tell me what could be the problem? Should I root my phone.
I also discovered the same problem while trying to edit tags of songs stored in sdcard1 using PlayerPro app.

Blame LolliFlop for that one, it is not the app's fault.

The app can only change things in a Folder on the extSDcard that belongs to that app.... end of story.

Oh... Lolliflop..

Hope they will correct it in the marshmallow update...

Is this any alternative for "ES File Explorer" that pretty much does all the job and which works in "LolliFlop"? I am finding it very difficult to use the native app as I'm accustomed to ES.

Try Solid Explorer. It will prompt you once to get write access to the external SD card, after that it works great. In landscape mode, you can even have dual panels, much like Windows Commander, or the old Norton Commander.

Will check it out. Thanks anyway...

If Solid Explorer doesn't quite work for you take a look at X-plore or, for something more like ES, FX File Explorer. ES is not what it used to be and is also a security problem if all allowed Internet access.

To try this I ...

Uninstalled ES (selecting the delete ES files option if offered)
Installed ES
Started ES
Copied a file from internal to SD card
It brought up a Hint dialog
I tapped Select
List appeared and at the bottom of the screen was "SELECT SD card"
I tapped "SELECT SD card"

The copy completed.

I was never prompted again.

Good alternatives to ES are ...
X-plore
ES Pro

ES and ES Pro have a known flaw and should never be used for accessing cloud data. They send your accounts and passwords for cloud data back to China.
