I've set up folder/file sharing on my pc and downloaded ES File Explorer. The app views my PC but everytime i try to connect it says it cant connect to the server. Anyone know how to fix this? Is happening with my S3 also.

Something is not set up properly on your PC.

Have you made sure sharing is enabled under Network and Sharing Centre?

Have you added the server manually, or did a search for it?

im assuming so. The folders are in the network to be shared. i've had trouble getting that far! how do i tell if sharing is turned on?

i searched for the server, the app found it itself.

Go to Control Panel> Network and Sharing Centre> Change Advanced Sharing (top left).

Have you set up NTFS permissions for the shared folder?

Right-click the folder you are trying to share, go to Security tab and make sure Everyone has Read permissions.
Right-cick shared folder>Sharing>Share and make sure that Everyone has Read permissions.

Ok new update...

Previously on the App i could see the computer but couldn't log in. Tried adding a password...didnt work. Turned OFF password enabled sharing and then BOOM i could see the folders (still can).

Now when i press the folder i want to view it says
The account has no permissions.

All the permissions in the folder are set to Read. So now im stuck again. Which account is the app referring to? the folder or the actual app needing permissions??

Check both sharing and NTFS permissions as only with both of these combined it will work. Just as I explained above.

i right clicked the folder

Went to sharing tab

it came up with "choose people to share with"
i clicked the drop down box and added Everyone and made the permission level Read
