Root Ese53

Bored at home recovering from a procedure, so decided to try this.

Did the nandroid (system only) over my current setup (Simply Stunning ERE25) as I had Chevy's kernel in place that worked.

Mostly seems fine, except the Google News/Weather widget won't load any news (just keeps saying "Loading" even after a reboot) and More Icons paid version won't appear in the market, and won't work on the home screen.

Doesn't seem better performance-wise from the Simply Stunning ere25 ROM, so I'm going to go back for now...or try a few other ESE versions to pass the time. :)

LWPs are interactive! (I'm guessing the modified the 2.0.1 launcher to allow this as launcher2 is not present) The nexus wallpaper has also been replaced by a droid version... pretty sweet

It's a 2.1 launcher. It's just named launcher. Launcher2 was just to differentiate between the 2 when it got ported over to the Droid.

is this causing anyone to nit see apps in the market anymore?

Other builds I have tried from ESE53 do, but what about this one?

Actually, I do, using my method of copying them from /data/app to a local directory, but the weird thing is that all the apps that are not showing in market come down from /data/app as .ZIPs not as .APKs - and renaming them doesn't work, and trying to copy them to the download folder and installing them from inside the OS itself also does not work.

Oh, well, I guess I'll wait for ESE53 for a bit and revert to ERE25.

I have finally settled on the ESE53 version posted in this thread (the one that comes with the 1100MHz kernel). I have patched it to 5 screens and added the Desire theme. It so far has been problem free and is running much cooler than Ultimate or Pete's (and I have spent all day trying every combination of ROM/kernel you can shake a stick at). I will continue to experiment but I think for now I have found my sweet spot.

If this is the official 2.1 then this is how the Droid is suppose to be. I'm running Ultimate Droid 6.1 version and ESE53 is the smoothest Rom I've had on my phone. You can really push this phone. I have not tried other themes but that is what I'm going to do today. If you are rooted do a nandroid restore and lost this Rom. You will not regret it.

BD had U6.3 out now, with the fixes for Market apps not being seen and a couple of other fixes as well.

Testing it now.

Yea, I am using it to and I have to say it is running much cooler then Pete's or Ultimate (hmmmm). I know Pete told me to wipe 3 times before flashing and that should fix it but I have this one setup perfectly. Just so you know, if you plan on doing any wifi tethering you will need to grab some su binary files and the Superuser.apk from a ERE25 ROM and push them over and chmod them to 04755(su binaries) and 644 to the apk. Also you need a Chevy kernel as the one it came with is p3droid's and they don't have it enabled.

Can anyone give easy instructions to go from Droidmod to a ESE53 Rom, can you just simply get the update.zip slap it in your root directory then goto recovery mode and update(Do I need some new Kernel)?
Need suggestions for a good ESE53 Rom as well.

Thanks in advance.

You really need to do a full data wipe to have it running propperly as you are going from a 2.01 ROM to a 2.1 (I do a full wipe now anytime I flash to eliminate any problems).

Thanks I Found a great thread for it almost instantly after posting, thought I could edit it out to save some headaches. Thanks for the super fast reply btw.

Droid Mod 1.0 just wasn't cutting it for me, so I went ahead and flashed this to my phone a little bit ago. It's really fast and packed with features. Live Wallpapers are amazing on my Droid. So far, no issues to speak of. Now, I'm thinking about adding installing Bugless Beast..

Do you have to have sprecovery 0.99.3b or can 2 work as well?

It's a good habit to keep SPRecovery as up-to-date as possible. It's only two steps to update it!

1) Download the file and copy it to the SD card.
2) Unmount the SD card. Go into Terminal Emulator on your phone and type in the following commands:
su [Press enter; you may need to give it superuser permissions if you haven't before]
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-0.99.3b.img [Press enter]
reboot recovery [Press enter]

That's it. Now you'll boot into SPRecovery 0.99.3b.

But yeah, having a recovery other than the one that's recommended is not a good idea; I remember spending an entire morning wondering why my phone would no longer boot into any ROM I flashed, even after flashing the phone with the 2.0.1 SBF file. Then, I realized it was because I was using Koush's ClockworkMod Recovery, which no ROM likes, apparently.

in a sbf file, do i have to do the whole motorola thingy or can i just put the file in my sd card and boot into recovery and do 'update.zip' ?

You can't do update.zip on anything but a .zip file. The .sbf has to be flashed with RSD Lite. You can't do it without a computer.
