ESN Number Question

Im going to be buying a used Droid and wanted to know which ESN I need to get from the seller to verify its clean.

The Hex ESN or the Dec ESN?

You can go with either, but the Hex is normally used, it should start with a letter A followed by either 6 zeros or A1 and 6 zeros cant remember right now, and dont want to take my battery door off.
