Let's say you buy a nice new smartphone. Then after a few monrhs you find that network
enhancements fail to happen. So you go early termination.

If you pay the $350, then do you fully own that phone and get a good saleable ESN?

AFAIK, ESN only goes bad when reported stolen or lost.
