Europa - Found how to make the battery last longer

Gattancha

Only had this phone a week and already getting rather pee'd off at how quickly the battery discharges - been having to charge it almost every night with a top up during the day at times.

Anyway, I had a play about with some of the settings and the following appears to work Only used 10% since I took it off charge at 6am this morning and the time of writing this..

Goto Settings -> Accounts & Sync
Disable "Background Data" and OK the Attention prompt

I have also disabled GPS under "Location & Security" as I rarely use it..

Regarding the attention box and its warning about some apps not working one of these is Android Market - but it will prompt you to enable and take you back to the Accounts & Sync screen so you can re-enable it..

Not sure what other apps it will affect, but it certainly helps with the battery life...

I turn off background sync, GPS, wifi (when not using) bluetooth and select only 2g instead of 3g. I charge about every 3 days unless I have been using heavily. Things like using the built in Navigation really seem to sap the battery. I downloaded some 'on/off' switches by Curvefish from the marketplace which help. From what I have read, short battery life is not uncommon with smartphones.

Have read the same and try and keep as little running as poss - esp GPS which seems to be the biggest drain...
Will have a look for those on/off switches too :)

ye all smartphones suffer battery issues although sometimes its just people wanting to get a week out of there device which just isnt possible

for more savings, in the settings then about phone there is a battery usage meter that will show you how much battery each running app has used since the last recharge, keep checking that to weed out your biggest users and stop them

the problem with this is that it can be a little uninformative at times by just saying "cell standby" instead of all the apps running during this standby etc

id suggest also getting a taskkiller app and kill of all the none important ones

Hmmm recently I suffer on battery problem. Despite that I turned off GPS and other stuff, I have to charge my phone every day. Before I had to charge it every 2 days, even 3 days. Now I charge it, I go to bed and after 10h of doing nothing I have about 65% - 70% left. ;/

it's quite annoying ;/

my galaxy Europa is also losing battery life really quickly, I've even tried buying a new battery but i charge it over night and it runs dry within a hour and half to two hours, for example, it was fully charged when i left my house to see my girlfriend, she only lives half hour away from me, by time i got there i had to put my phone on charge again cuz it only had 50% battery, its rather annoying to be honest :L

If you want to automate it and make the battery last a lot longer try something like Juice Defender and get it to shut down wifi and mobile data as soon as the screen goes off. I then let it connect once every fifteen minutes for a minimum of 15 seconds and then shut the connections down again based on a traffic threshold. Seriously, when the phone is on standby with only the 2g radio on it's draining like maybe 1% per hour. That's nearly a total standby time of 100hrs. Mad huh? Mind you, as soon as you light the screen up and start doing stuff on it you can burn 5% in 10-15 mins ... :(

Will this stop my g-mail syncing?

I'm having the same problem. I've turned off GPS and everything I don't need. Then I checked to see what is using all my battery and...

'Cell standby'= 50%
'Phone idle'= 47%

Why on Earth are these consuming so much juice? I get about 24 hours out of my phone. And that's if I don't use it much.

What can I do? If anything...
