Europe best phone

That's exactly what I meant. The Galaxy's specs do look good, however I dislike the UI and styling which make it look like it's trying to be an iPhone. Plus I've never really been a fan of Samsung phones.

I'd still pick the Desire.

Every Samsung phone my family has ever owned has disappointed the owner. The specifications may be good, but specs are no good without a proper interface and support to back it.
I would stick with a good brand like HTC.

thats what i have found as well, the hardware is always good on samsung phones, but the ui, software and customer support have always been terrible. The galaxy s looks great spec wise, but its trying too hard to mimic the iphone os look.

Stop with iphone hate, its a very good phone(and yes I know about the antenna crap), nothing wrong in copying the good things about the iphone.

Im not hating the iPhone at all, dont get me wrong, I love the iPhone, I had on for 2 years and think they are awesome.

but If you want the look of the iPhone OS, get an iPhone, why get an android phone that is trying really hard to look like an iPhone? Just seems a bit odd to me. A large part of the attraction of Android is the different UI, and the fact that your not following the masses isnt it?

Im sure the Galaxy s will be very capable, but I'm put off by the fact that its samsung behind the skinned UI and at the end of the phone if it goes wrong.

Completely agree.

Are Samsung really that bad for mobile devices?

Before moving to the Desire I had a short spell with an iphone prior to which I had used Sony Ericsson for about years. Some friends and family members had samsung phones and they seemed very similar just with a different UI. I love samsung electronics in my home, I have a small (32") HD TV and a bluray player of theirs. I expect I'll be buying a larger TV for the lounge in a few weeks and will likely look at samsung before most others.

I have a samsung monitor and used to have a samsung stereo, I think the hardware is great, but they havent impressed me with any of the UIs ive ever seen or used.

I have a Samsung plasma TV, DVD player and surround sound system that I'm very happy with, I've just never liked their phones much.

Alcides: What iPhone hate? No-one's saying anything bad about the iPhone, we're saying we don't want a phone that looks like it's trying to be one.

I don't want to disapoint your anti-iphone feelings but the similarities between Iphone and any android phone is as much as of two twin brothers.

Using Ferrari comparisom, it would be Ferrari testarrosa and the other Ferrari spider.

Samsung are incredibly good for screens.

I don't like much else that they make though.

The iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S are the two best phones out here at the minute hardware-wise, but the Galaxy S feels very cheap and tacky, and the UI isn't great. The iPhone is a great choice, but it's not a viable choice of you want Android...

Thread moved to the Samsung Galaxy S forum. This way you can get inputs from the Galaxy S owners themselves ;)

Cheers,
-Roze-

No need to move it since my goal was for desire owners(as myself) to be informed that they are not #1 in Europe, nothing to do with galaxy as could be any other phone(Evo when launched in Europe for example).

Im not anti iPhone...damned it. I really like them, I have a desire now, but have no issues with iPhone, I was just pointing out, and you cant deny it, that the galaxy s and the iPhone 3G/3Gs look very similar...

and i stick by my porsche ferrari analogy. the 2 phone stables are far more distinct than just comparing 2 ferraris.

So what's your point, that the Galaxy exists or that you think it's better than the Desire? I knew the former and disagree with you on the latter. If it's that all technology is eventually superceded, I knew that too.

And we still don't hate the iPhone.

I'm proud to say that I AM an iphone hater. I personally feel that it is an over-priced, over-hyped, locked down, proprietory piece of crap.

The similarities between android and iphone OS are minimal. The iphone OS is so locked down, the user can't do much in way of customisation. It is limited in what it can do and what it can do, it does poorly.

Android is not flawless itself, but if you choose Android (a very customisable platform), you then have a multitude of devices you can run it on. You can choose different hardware specs to suit. Its not locked down at all either, its open source - meaning developers can create applications that will actually change or replace OS functionality to however you want it to perform. No more waiting on a single source for fixing the issues you have (like with apple).

The difference between the 2 OS' here is so vast, no anaology will do.

The Samsung galaxy, if it decides to look like an iphone in its UI, good luck to them., But for me, its a no go.

Like someone said earlier, being the "best phone" is subjective. It depends on what you want. I love my desire and thats all that matters. I dont care if others dont think its the best.

Infact, Id prefer it not to have taken off like it has. I wanted to be one of a few. Not one in many. I'd been following it since the leaked roadmap in december. I cant believe their marketing has been so good that everybody knows about it.

Let the flaming commence.

The differences between both are minimal, no need to hide it. Even apps are basically the same.

My point is that not so long ago Desire was the best but not anymore. The difference in specs between desire and Galaxy are huge. Basically Galaxy is the european version of Evo.
Thats life no need to get angry.

We all know about Iphone failures( Add antenna crashers and if rumors are true that Job basically shitting on everyone who complains about the antenna...) but you have to admit it is a very good phone and basically the reason why smartphones gave the huge jump in quality.
Now this is getting a bit out of topic.

One is a closed system which is basically just an app launcher while the other is an open system which can be customised in any way you want, yes even to look like an iphone. You may as well say a PC and a Mac are the same.

Thats life no need to get angry. Not seen anybody getting angry yet. The point you are missing is that some people have doubts about the samsung support and quality of the hardware. I have had two samsung phones and both had to go for repair within the first 12 months
