Even Easier Root?

I'm thinking of making a very simplified tutorial for the latest root method. I figured out how to do it because I went through the process of rooting my phone with the original method. There are bits and pieces of really good info to help, but I'm not sure that there is a thorough, start to finish tutorial.

For new users that sounds good, I would be glad to help for the mac/linux section. I know how to do it well and on the first try, I just need to sit down and take the time to write up the instructions

As long as it includes an ADB/SDK tutorial, I think it would be a good idea. It seems that a lot of people are getting stuck on the install and use of that more than anything else.

... your apps will be waiting for you in the market when you're done flashing, ...

True for the most part. However, I have some apps on my phone that I am unable to find in the Market now. For the most part, I wouldn't mind losing 99% of these now apps, but there are a couple that I would absolutely be upset if I couldn't reload.

Ok i figured out how to get it into recovery mode but the commands to run the engtools is still unclear to me. If I push that zip to my sd card then how do I flash it? should it be renamed update.zip then run it through recovery? I'm so sorry but I am still lost and the XDA instructions are different from what I want to do. Since I only want to root using the engtools.zip

That's exactly what I'm thinking. There seem to be a lot of assumptions about finding and installing the sdk. I really think that a lot of it is already in various threads. The info just needs to be compiled, with proper credit given, of course.

when you are in recovery scroll to the part that says flash update or something, its like the third one down. click it with the trackball and find the .zip file that says EngTools.zip, if its not there tell me. If its there click it, let it do its thing, then click reboot when its done

When in recovery the file is not there. I just pasted the file in my main root of the sd card. Should I have pushed it with sdk? the only thing in recovery is
Reboot system now
Apply sdcard:update.zip
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition

ok when I did that it says no such file in directory and installation aborted

Is started to look for update.zip and tried to install immediately ans there was no option to look for the engtools.zip

Shame there isn't a chat we could use to speed this up LOL

Update: I'm in IRC chat but noone will talk to me haha

Said signature verification failed when I tried to run it. I renamed it through Astro file manager was that ok to do?

not sure. i renamed it after i copied it to the card. it shouldnt matter i wouldnt think

maybe you should re-download the file. it should be 39k in size

yeah its 39k. I renamed it and it still failed. Is there any particular way I need to put it on my sd card? or can I just drop it in as long as it's in the root of the sd card?

when i dropped mine in, it fell into the zip file section. just like apk's drop right into the apk file section. its actually the winrar zip archive section. i also have a video/music section, file section, bin section, etc.

there is no zip file section in the root of my sd card Ill try 1 more time then I think I will try again tomorrow since its getting late here. I'll let you know how it turns out before I sign off for the night.

when i put my phone in disk drive mode instead of charge only i get a popup on my pc. i click open folder to view files. then i see all these sections. when i drop a file in, whether its a picture or zip file or whatever, it drops into the correct category. try it like that

i hope you get it cuz even with the stock rom, oc'ing and root access(needed for oc'ing is considerably faster with no lag anywhere. wait til you play your games clocked at 768 or what ever you can max out at

when you say to put it in the root of the sd card. That means just in it anywhere and not in a folder correct? sdcard/ <--- in there correct?

Says verification failed and doesn't go any further. I have to be doing something incorrect but for the darnedest reason i cant figure out what it is. Time for bed. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for the help tonight. Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow.

yeah. if its not in a folder it should be the root of the card. but like i said in my other post, if i do it by selecting disk drive on the phone instead of charge only, it drops it into a section called winrar zip archive automatically. but when your done, put the phone back in charge only mode

hope you do. i'll look at my card directly from explorer and see where it dumps it.

i just did. it comes up the same way on win7. it must be a win7 thing with the card in the phone.

Im thinking about making a quick video tutorial on how to do it. Start to finish.
I got a PM that I answered in extreme detail and I will post that later.
